The hamock equlivent of rubberbands...

I bought this product for my 9 year old son to make it easier for him to set up his own hammock. I was more than surprised to see that he (a 70lbs kid) was able to stretch the straps until he was sitting on the ground. I tightened the straps to the point of absurdity and he still ended up on the ground in the morning. ENO usually makes great gear, but this was a serious oversight by someone in the engineering department... I ended up going with the Atlas straps for my son and two lengths of ½ in. webbing for myself with two Figure 9 carabineers (150lbs). Both of which work perfectly. JR

If you want to wake up on the ground...

These straps are so stretchy, you'll want to adjust them after about 5 minutes, and then again after about 30 minutes. You might still end up touching the ground. This can be really irritating if you're trying to camp in your hammock. I've had them for a year and a half and I hung on to them this long because they were a gift from my wife (I asked for them), and I feel bad telling her that they're no good. I eventually dropped one strap in favor of a ratcheting strap so I could easily take up some slack. That's too heavy and bulky for backpacking, though, and even with just one Eno strap it still stretches too much. That said, I like the idea of it and think it could be a great design if the company would use the right materials (a little lighter and without stretch).

Good idea but poor materials.

The material used in this product in incredibly stretchy. I only used them once and woke up touching the ground three times that night. Do yourself a favor and buy two 12' hanks of 1" military spec webbing and learn to tie a couple knots. The webbing is considerably stronger, without flex and lighter to boot.

Took them back

First thing I've returned to REI. These straps are very convenient, pretty well thought out, but have two major design flaws that caused me to return them. First, the pre-sewn loops, while convenient, always seem to be 3-4 inches away from ideal. Which ordinarily wouldn't be a problem except... Issue two - stretch. These straps stretch like crazy under load. I'd guess the hammock dropped 20-25 inches under load stretch. Tested both the hammock and straps for stretch, and its the straps. In fact, I tried pitching the hammock nearly horizontally taught, pulling as hard as I could to set the carabiners and still the hammock sagged nearly 2 feet under load. Returned them and swapped out for webbing straps and problem was solved. Good idea ENO, wrong material.

Far too stretchy for overnight trips.

Useless for actually sleeping in, because they're made of nylon and slowly stretch a LOT. You will end up on the ground, with your feet elevated - very uncomfortable. Fine if you just want to hang your hammock and sit for an hour. This is not a new problem; I can't believe Eno even sells these in nylon any more. Do yourself a favor; buy the Eno Atlas straps (they're poly, not nylon), or Python Straps.

Slap Strap Pro

I bought the slap strap pro set (not at REI) and found them to be super stretchy and pretty much unusable. I would string my hammock tight and about 5 feed off the ground. When I sat in it each strap would stretch over 5 inches in length (crude measuring system) and my bottom would barely be off the ground. I thought the stretch would lessen after some use but after a weekend I returned them as it was still bad. Great overall design. They just need some better webbing.

GREAT

I use it everywhere. The ENO Hammock is the best hammock ever! I know that is hard to believe but it is true. This is my second one, first one sadly was lost, or stolen from camping buddies. :) These straps are great. Yes true you could use a daisy chain webbing or any webbing, but if you are a climber you would want to make sure that these items are separate. Don't Mix tree straps for hammock use with climbing technical straps. Wear is different and you just dont want to mix the two. These are simple to use and marked with the eno label. Also for those who want longer straps, ENO does have the Strap PRo that is 22 inches longer, and for the minimalists they have a new micro version thats 4.5 oz instead of the 12 that these are. I use these straps in my Loft between two beams (secured beams) and take naps in the hammock almost daily!

It Works Wel

I have to agree with the other reviews need to be longer with more loops for a more flexible conecting points. They donot pack well and are heavy, though I would not want a weak material and diffently would like more loops to connect to.

Good, but a little short.

I used these with the ENO double nest and they worked great. However, they were a bit short and I had to put the hammock in the 2nd ideal spot. The first spot had too thick of trees and the strap was just a foot or so too short. Then I read reviews and I found out about the pro line and the micro lines of slap straps. Im going to be returning these and getting the micro lines because they are like 2 bucks more and they are 1/4 the weight, and like 2 feet longer than the originals. I dont know why these are still even sold if there is such better ones out there.

Great

These are fantastic! I decided to write a review after i saw the bad reviews on here. I have 3 enos and all three straps and these are the best for the buck. If you have more money go with atlas but not necessary. To address the stretching issue in the other peoples reviews... The eno is what stretches and your line tightens when you sit in it it isn't necessarily the straps. The rope around the caribeaner tightens around which makes you sink. The line tightens around the tree which causes you to sink and the eno fabric stretches. The best word of advice i have to tell you is to pull the eno as hard as you can once you get it up and hold that to tighten to stretch it some and then lift it on a higher notch. eno makes great products all around and these are fantastic.
