Not good for the REI Traverse Poles
I bought REI traverse poles for my Father and the website recommended these for walking on pavement etc. After installing them and doing a test run they quickly split at the top around the pole. It became obvious that the rubber is not elastic enough to stretch around the pole taper and instead splits. The REI Store cust service said that they had not seen this before and verified that I had the right tips for the poles. I looked at other REI poles in the store and noticed that they all have different taper angles and diameters (different models) so the material needs more elasticity to work with all of the REI poles. I have found that the LEKI rubber walking tips $9 work perfectly and are much better quality.
Tips are good!
these are replacement tips for poles. They are seem to be very good, and last for a many miles. Using them for road workouts as I do, causes them to wear more, but thats to be expected. The only gripe I have is that they will come off in stiff mud. So you have to be a bit careful. I always carry a couple of extra ones just in case.
SMALL BUT WORTH IT
These are a great addition to treking poles when using them on rock. We hiked the Canyonlands in Utah, and these rubber tips were indispensable on the slick rock. They were easy to remove when we returned to Washington.
Split
Lost the original tips for my REI traverse poles so I replaced them with these. First hike I took these tips completely split. Perhaps they work better on other poles.
