Admission: I am a well-worn 65 year-old BC telemarker of modest skill. But powder snow makes me feel like an ace. Yet, with all respect to the Sierra Nevada, I have to admit that powdery, friable snow is short-lived: within just hours of a splendid snowfall, the sun may shine bright and hot. This otherwise magnificent event threatens BC skiers with the dreaded 'glop': snow bergs suddenly adhering to ski bases which brings forward progress (and all joy) to a merciless halt. Maxiglide to the rescue! I prefer scale-bottom skis and, unless I plan to start skiing with skins, I'll apply Maxiglide just before heading to the trailhead. And in every case, I put an extra spoonful of this purple magic in a zipseal snack bag along with the tiny foam sponge in case conditions require a re-application in the field. One application usually lasts one outing unless what you call an 'outing' is ten or more hours on snow. Note that Maxiglide will contaminate skin glue, so don't apply it to the ski bases before skins! That's an extra reason to carry a small application in your pack; apply it AFTER you remove skins. Finally, Maxiglide is super-fluid with even slight warmth. If you squeeze your homemade zipseal bag supply it WILL leak, Maxiglide always finds a way. So you may want to double-bag or otherwise protect your field application from being squished in your pack and leaking. The manufacturer has tried a variety of ways to provide pack-friendly single applications, the most secure being a tiny snip-top plastic vial. But those are hard to find - hence the (inexpensive) zipseal bag work-around. To summarize, I more than recommend this product: I consider it essential.

skis ice up in 32 deg F fresh falling snow. Put it on the night before on waxless skis, had to reapply 3 times within a mile. Nice icy and compacted snow we had to use a scraper on to get off. If I could post a picture I'd show you how bad it got. Worthless FAILED product.

Excellent wax for "waxless" skis!

I've been cross-country skiing recreationally for 20 years on waxless skis, but a couple years ago I was just about to give it up. Seems the weather conditions around here were always such that big clumps of snow, ice and mud would stick to the bottoms of my skis, making it extremely difficult to move! This wax has changed all that. I apply it to the entire ski bottom (fishscales and all) and glide along smoothly! In extremely wet conditions I can still get a little bit of snow sticking to the bottom of the ski, but it's a very thin layer and I can easily knock it off by rapping the ski with a pole. Going uphill can be a bit tougher too with this wax, since the fishscales don't grip as well, but it's well worth the trade-off. This wax has salvaged my cross-country "career"!

easy and effective

I always apply this wax the night before skiing and let it soak into the ski base. I carry it with me and reapply if the snow conditions warrant. I also apply it after I have cleaned my skis.

Wax used for snow shovel

I used this on my snow shovel. It worked very well to keep the snow from sticking to the shovel. I hope that the wax stays on the shovel, so that it doesn't get on birds' feathers.

Quick and Easy

I love this product. I use it four times a week, and it last me for over a season of back country skiing. There is no mess like the liquids. It goes on easy; just twist the sponge and spread it on the entire ski. This is a must for skis with a pattern in the kick area.

Cheap, easy, good glide, ok durability

The glide is better than the other waxes I’ve tried. Seems to do best in colder temps. Apply it a few hours before going out to get best durability. If you’re going out for two hours or less, the durability is fine. I don’t have any complaints.

Seems to work Well

This stuff really seems to work, it can make the trip much less enjoyable if you forget it and end up scraping snow off your skis frequently and cannot glide well. A small price to keep your cross country skis gliding well in wet Arizona snow.
