Rated 5 out of 5 by from It multitasks!! Used this on my section hike on the AT from Springer Mt, GA to Deep Gap, NC. It rained A LOT!!! Not only did it help keep me dry & warmer than I would have been...but since it also covered my pack it gave an added layer of protection (along with pack cover). It also served to keep my sleeping bag protected from the driving rain at the Tray Mountain shelter (tucked it in over my bag) keeping me warm & cozy all night long! The only con was I needed some help in getting it to drape over my pack when I put it on...just a little getting used to! My two backpacking companions want one after seeing mine in action!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Multipurpose Product I read the previous reviews and it almost swayed me to not buy this product. I took the chance anyway and I am glad I did. Some things that weren't obvious in the description: Has nylon webbing tie downs for use as a simple shelter (works great) Can easily fit over a normal 33L backpack Not very breathable fabric This should not be used as your primary defense for rain. it is not sealed at the sides (like all ponchos) and quick hiking would definitely allow some water to make its way inside. Also, the fabric doesn't seem very breathable so I would imagine that a lot of condensation from a sweaty hiker would get trapped. I have yet to have actual water from the outside touch my skin. It packs down really well, hood and fit is pretty much universal...I can't think of a real complaint for this product. For a multi-purpose, well made product like this, it is a steal at the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Product I wore this poncho hiking in Iceland during periods of light to heavy rain. It is neither waterproof nor water resistant. In a moderate rain, I got soaked underneath. I would not recommend it to anyone and will return it to REI.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sopping wet! Wore this and walked up the hill to the stadium on a rainy day, water soaked through the poncho material before the game even started.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from water-resistent label is misleading Can not rely on this product to keep you dry as it leaks like a sieve even in a slow rain; the term water resistent is very misleading and not representative of the performance of this product in a very mild rain

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Makes a great lean-to Intended to pack the product use as rainy protection on the Camino de Santiago de Compostella. I purchased the poncho to protect against rain on a 50 day pilgrimage. Got it home, read the info, there was more info about how to use the poncho as an emergency lean-to than as a poncho. It is huge; like trying to wear a bedspread! I can't imagine what this poncho would be like in a rainy windy storm. Don't know how one would keep it on. I didn't get to apply the poncho in the actually IS a portable lean-to masquerading as a poncho...weird.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Rain Protection Good, lightweight, compact, and inexpensive way to provide rain cover when hiking. Provides good air circulation, fits over a daypack, and length will keep legs dry unless it's really pouring. I have a Goretex hooded parka, but can only wear it unless weather is really cold. I keep poncho with my luggage when traveling, since light and compact to carry. This is a replacement for previous one I either misplaced or lost.

I discovered my Outdoor Products poncho has light mold in spots emitting an unpleasant odor. Is there a way to clean this or do I need to toss it.

Asked by: braeburn
We recommend washing this poncho by hand using Nikwax Tech Wash. After the poncho has dried McNett MiraZyme Odor Eliminator will remove the odor.
