Mostly fantastic pack

Great pack designed for women--comfortable shoulder straps and hip belt. I like the way the hip belt adjustment straps are positioned for ergonomically easier tightening. Lots of pockets for organizing. The one drawback for me, because I prefer to drink out of stainless steel bottles vs. using a water bladder (pack has bladder compartment) is the water bottle design is tilted forward so my bottle either falls out or is in the way of my arm when walking. I rigged a way to keep in out of my way but then the bottle has to be removed by either taking off the pack or my someone else.

Not worth its weight

I know that the Deva is a very popular pack, but I ended up selling mine and going with a different pack for shorter backpacking trips. I found that it is difficult to load, my stuff just didn't really fit right in it (the bag is narrow and it can be a little difficult to even get my sleeping bag in, not to mention a group cookset, etc). It will only comfortably carry enough for a few nights, and the weight of the pack ends up being a significant portion of its overall packed weight (5lbs 6 oz). The pack is rated 35- 40 lbs and it was only comfy on me up to 25 or 30 lbs. Overall, the bag doesn't make sense for me. Try it out, but don't go with it just because its really popular, make sure it is really right for you.

A great all-purpose pack!

This is a very comfortable, fairly lightweight pack that can hold a decent load and works for a weekend hike or as an alternative to schlepping around a big suitcase. The separate sleeping bag compartment and midway zipper opening help keep you organized and your stuff accessible. The water bottle design is indeed quite annoying (when it wasn't falling out, I kept bumping it with my elbow on a recent trip). But it works with a reservoir, so, besides the PCBs and environmental estrogens leaching from the plastic, this is definately the way to go.

Gregory Deva 60 is an AWESOME pack

I have been using an external frame pack for the last few years and I decided it was time to upgrade. The Gregory Deva 60 was a wonderful choice. It is very well built and has a large capacity for my 5 day hikes along the AT. It is soo comfortable and gets the weight of the pack off my shoulders and onto my hips where it is supposed to be. It took a little time to get it fitted just right but now it is super comfortable and versatile enough for all of my needs. You can't go wrong with Gregory, it is just an awesome pack

Woman friendly!

I love the pivoting system that Gregory developed because women have those natural hips, so I noticed the pack moved with every movement and was much easier on my hips, back and shoulders.I am 5' tall and carried about 35 - 40 lbs in my pack (on trips no longer than 3 days) with no problem. I'd recommend going into [...] to try packs ([...]). Packs may also be a personal, individual thing and the Deva may not be your most comfortable pack - in terms of shoulder, chest and hip sizes. So I'd recommend trying packs on as well.

This pack does it all!

This pack is extremely comfortable, even with heavy loads. I've used it in the winter for an overnight yurt trip and for extended day summer backpacking trips, with loads of 40 - 50 pounds. I have also used the fanny pack for day long excursions from camp. The fanny pack doesn't have a way to carry water, but I just use one or two water bottle pocket(s) (w/ velcro strap) to add water carrying capacity to the fanny pack which then works well to hold everything I need for the day.

Great pack for a long weekend

It's great to see a pack that is both practical and comfortable for a woman! This is a great pack for weekend backpacking trips, but probably not big enough for longer trips (unless you have a hiking buddy who can carry the tent and/or some of the food for you). It has a lot more pockets than other packs in the same class, which allows for easy organization and quick retrieval of small items while on the trail. The other unique feature that I appreciate is the rubberized bottom, which keeps the contents dry despite that muddy puddles that I tend to set my pack in. My only [trivial] complaint is that the water bottle holder has a tendency to launch your water bottle whenever you lean forward or bend over - I suggest using the camelback pocket instead, or rigging up a way to keep your water bottle more secure.

My first real pack!

It was about time to get my own pack! Great for summer backpacking trips as well as gnarlier weather. The front pocket makes it a little front heavy - it accidentally took a tumble down a mountainside in the Tetons, but came out none the worse for wear. Durable and adjustable, although the water bottle pockets leave a little to be desired - definitely have to strap in your nalgenes or just use a camelback. Overall a good, comfortable pack that makes you pack light.

Comfortable but limited

I was looking for a small, comfortable pack, and this is it! However, my husband carried both sleeping bags and the tent, so if you have to carry your own, this is not the bag. That water bottle holder would be easier to reach if high on the side. I quit using the bottle and used the bladder with all of its yucky taste. I like the outside pockets, but wish the center front one could be a little wider. The top cover-detachable fanny pack is great! However, if we ever go on a week-long hike, I'll need a different pack. Carried only 27 lbs. this time by really cutting back, and the weight of the belt was significant, since I traded the small for a large--"Cadillac" version. It was wonderful! Overall it's a good, compact pack, but the stiff shoulder straps had to be enhanced by stuffing a "World's Softest Sock" under each side.

Gregory Deva 60 Pack is Perfect

The Gregory Deva 60 pack is a dream come true. The frame comes in sizes from large to x-small which is wonderful, because we are not all built the same. I am a small woman - under 5 feet tall and barely 100 pounds so a great fit, or even a good fit, is just about impossible - until the Gregory Deva 60 came along. With the x-small frame size and the fact that this is the ultimately adjustable pack, I was able to load it to approximately 30 pounds and not experience any soreness or chafing anywhere after two days of hiking. With other packs I've actually been bruised at shoulders and hips. Because of the way the shoulder harness and hip belt are designed the pack moves with you rather than against you. It made the load feel half the weight of the same load in other packs. Congratulations to Gregory for making a terrific pack! It's making backpacking fun again!
