Too Simple
We recently completed a 4-day trip from Mattole to Usal Beach. I'll start by saying.. Do it!! Spectacular experience and highly recommended. However.. this map is not the best guide for the parks, as it is missing a significant number of rivers, water sources and campsites. At least one major river is mislabeled. General consensus on the trail was that this map was inadequate, topo clarity is poor, and many people using it were ill informed on their location and distances. The BLM map can be purchased for half the cost and is an upgrade.
Simplified and inaccurate.
I'm a biologist working in the King Range Area for three months. We used this map to plan our surveys but it is incredibly inaccurate. If you're just hiking the Lost Coast Trail, it's adequate - it shows the dangerous tide areas that you need to watch. If you're doing ANY of the other trails or driving on the interior roads it's completely wrong. It doesn't show roads that are actually there, it shows roads that don't exist, and campsites and trails that haven't been used for years. We play "Map is Terrible" bingo in the evenings.
Simple but informative map
I took this map with me on a backpacking trip through the Sinkyone and Kings Range areas. The snippets of history and marked distances between campsites were accurate and invaluable for trip planning purposes. However, I would definitely recommend bringing a set of topographical maps for the same area to cross reference since the topo lines on this one are fairly vague and can get you into trouble.
