Rated 1 out of 5 by from Scarrrrry !!!! This rack broke - on the highway - between the kayak J shape and the piece that attaches to the truck rack. That is, the clamp was still on my truck, the J portion hanging from my tie rope, and my kayak skidded down the highway. The construction is to blame. The J portion is attached to the clamp with a bolt and a very tiny washer. The plastic cracked right around the bolt and washer allowing the J portion to fly off. I don't know yet how the company will respond to my damaged kayak and dents on my new pathfinder. ( as it happened just yesterday) I'm relieved that no one was hurt. One lesson learned - no matter how secure a rack LOOKS - never drive behind one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for skis I bought this for a new Subaru Crosstrek (to fit the old Button-down 6 ski rack), since Yakima no longer makes vehicle-specific Mighty Mounts. Took a while to install the first time, just because of being unfamiliar with the procedure, and getting the fit just right. It's easy once you understand the steps though. They fit snugly to the factory aero crossbar using the smaller bail and small bolts. One drawback is the inability to lock the mounts, as they are designed to be unscrewed by hand. However, since the ski rack itself is lockable, a thief would need to steal the entire assembly, skis and all if the rack is locked. I actually bought a set of common hex nuts and washers for about a dollar at the hardware store, and installed these on the extra threading below the thumb wheel screws, and tightened them with a wrench. Now a thief would need at least an adjustable wrench to remove the hex nuts, so while it's still not theft-proof, it can't be stolen in a "crime of opportunity" by someone just walking by, if they aren't carrying tools.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good idea; one CRITICAL flaw Since I invested heavily in Yakima accessories for round crossbars years ago...and now have a vehicle with factory aerobars...I wasn't looking forward to spending the money to adapt the fitments I had. Fortunately, the good people at Yakima feel my pain, and created this product, at $45, which keeps me from having to spend $250 for new ski mounts (I have the LiftTicket6). I'm not always with my skis/car when they are on the rack, and I like the locking feature of Yakima racks. HOWEVER, you need to know that when this is attached to your aerobars, your gear can be removed using the thumbwheel (shown in the product pictures). That's right...a thief would not even need any tools other than an opposable thumb! So, while this did save me ~$200, when I have 4 sets of skis on the car, that's a ~$2K risk. I'm not sure what the solution here is, but Yakima--if you're reading this--please figure out a way that these can't be so simply removed from the vehicle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flexible, easy to use - and steal I was able to use these with a number of older accessories on my new Subaru in-mount. Unfortunately, these were also easy for thieves to remove the towers and my basket in broad daylight. Not worth the loss.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor fit, poor construction, poor design It's a jack of all trades, master of none solution that sort of works on your factory crossbars. More expensive than the dedicated mounts to boot. Generally poor fit on my car bothers me enough that it's going back to the store for refund. No, I would not recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fitment? What fitment? Item description said these would grab the crossbars of virtually any factory-installed roof rack.... Refer to Fit List for size/shape of your vehicle. Problem is that the choices for fitment did not include factory crossbars which attach to factory-installed rails (a choice in the Fit List). Fit List needs some work--crossbars. Don't know if these will fit. Also why do the mounts cost 40% of the Basketcase? Can you spell rip-off? If I'd known that the mounts would add that much to the price of the carrier I'd have made a more intelligent choice in the first place (if that's possible!). Picked up the Basketcase today. Good thing I didn't have travel plans for tomorrow. Now I've got to wait 2 more weeks for the very expensive (and fragile/unsafe, if one reads the review of this product) Mightymounts. What to do, what to do?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the job, but needs improvement A must have, if you have your own non-yakima crossbars on your car's roof rack. Strong mounts, but not the best design. I needed these universal mounts for my Yakima Hullraiser Kayak mounts. The build is a bit confusing at first, like putting together an ikea dresser. It has a tilt option that compinsates for the curve of your roof, but you set this before you construct the whole mount, not adjustable after the mount is tightened together or on your car's cross-bars. The other problem is the hand tightening nuts are a bit tricky to tighten and never feel really tight. Also, when I purchased these mounts at REI, one of the mounts was missing pieces from the factory, it was a seeled bag, had to drive back and exchange for a new package. When it's all put together the mounts seem to work well and are strong. However, I think the engineering and build could be better for these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cannot withstand wind A severe windstorm ripped my kayak and attached hull raisers off the car. I had pulled off the road and was stationary. The tethers at bow and stern kept it from blowing away. Bolts ripped out of the glass reinforced nylon universal mighty mounts. Most disappointing was that Yakima did not answer my email inquiry on their web site.

Wil these fit 2010 Toyo Highlander Factory Cross bars.  Fit kit said no, but others have said it will....?

Asked by: Rixtory
There is not a fit for MightyMounts on your vehicle. There are other fit-options and you can check compatibility for your specific vehicle using the Yakima Fit Guide: http://www.yakima.com/fit/partner/?partnerId=9&location=http://www.rei.com/b/yakima

Will I be able to attach my old style yakima ski attachment to the Thule Aerobars with these?

Unfortunately without knowing which ski rack you are using we are unable to confirm if these will work. Please use the Yakima fit guide or contact us by phone at 1 (800) 426-4840 for assistance.
