Get the BD knee pads
I have had these knee pads for several years, they are durable and comfortable. I telemark ski and I trust my knees to the pads after my buddy hit a hidden stump at alta. I posted a pic of what the stump did to the BD pad. The impact sent him head over heels, but there was no injury to his knee. Unlike other pads, these are very comfortable and stay in place.
Exactly what I was looking for
Leaving for a 2 week ski trip and I bought these to protect my knees from further bruising if I crashed - was recovering from some serious crashes that banged up my knees and prevented me from most activities for a few weeks. I didn't want to risk aggravating the injuries but I also didn't want to give up the ski trip. I like to ski aggressively and these fit so comfortably under ski pants that I completely forget I have them on. I am at the front end of the ski trip and haven't actually 'tested' their ability to protect my knees but am confident they will do the trick.
No more bruised on my knee caps
These knee pads were probably designed for telemark skiers in mind. However, I've been using them for ice climbing. There are times when you kick poorly to set your crampons into the ice and instead bang your knee into the ice; and these knee pads have protected my knee caps from those mindless mistakes. Also these knee pads protects your expensive Gore-Tex shell pants from abrasion. Usually, the knee portion of your pants where the second most worn out place. So, these knee pads protects your investments (your knee caps and your pants).
Decent but not perfect
Pros: - Lightweight - Solid protection when kneeling Cons: - Straps don’t stay put all that well which leads to the knee pads bunching up under your ski pants. - Clasps don’t always hold straps in place that well. I use these while patrolling. Having a decent pair of knee pads is a game changer for all the kneeling we end up doing. Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of options out there for knee pads that fit the bill…these aren’t “bad” but they could use some improving for sure. Given the limited options these would be my go-to recommendation, but that’s doesn’t mean I’m not looking for something a little better…

Exactly what I needed
Like another reviewer, I use the knee pads for ski patrolling. I have all kinds of cartilage damage to my knees and they add the protection I need while kneeling with patients. It is the perfect, non-bulky, hard, but comfortable solution for me. I have used them in other situations, especially photography in austere environments and while rifle training and they are tough as nails. I'm on my second set because I lost one in Iceland and will not hesitate to buy again. The best tool I have to keep my knees from aching during ski patrolling. Fantastic product that is well-made, comfortable and unobtrusive.

Closing buckles not adequate
I purchased these knee pads b/c I bruised my knee cap missing a step at my work place, and needed knee protection when climbing. The material that covers the knee caps is a thick hard plastic and does help protect the knee. However, the first time I used it climbing outside and after banging into the rock, the buckle came undone and needed to be re-cinched while on the rock, or I would have lost the protection as it was literally falling off my leg. Whoever designed the clasp didn't match the sturdiness of the knee protection with a clasp that would hold. Unfortunate. Should be re-designed.
Just what I was hoping they'd be
I'm a volunteer ski patroller for a smaller midwest hill that has a pretty, shall we say, solid base (kinda icy). I'm also a toboggan skills trainer for the patrol, which means I spend a lot of time on my knees (on that icy base), packing and unpacking toboggans to run training drills. These pads have made life so much better as I do this. The pads are comfortable to wear, they are flexible, they have enough padding without being bulky, and the protection is hard enough to stop the crud from hurting. Plus I can now kneel on ice and snow in comfort and additional warmth. I have literally told everyone on the patrol they need to get these. They are probably sick of hearing me talk about my new knee pads.
An Admittedly Biased Review... ;)
I designed these while working at Black Diamond and they are still my favorite kneepads, not only for outdoor sports, but also for construction or anything that involves a lot of kneeling or crawling around. The downfall of many kneepads is that they are not articulated, so they require tight straps to keep them in place, which isn't bad at first, but eventually gets painful or even makes your legs go numb. I don't think twice about dropping to my knees on a concrete floor with these or jamming them into a granite wall on an aid climb. The plastic cover absorbs most of the sharp, nasty stuff and the foam pads provide the cushioning. They are enough to make me even consider dropping a knee to telemark. :)
Get them. Wear them.
My biggest endorsement of the TeleKneesis kneepads comes from last week, when my skis prereleased on a jump. My pant knees were torn in the resulting landing and slide (rocks...), but MY knees are just fine. I'm absolutely convinced I would have shattered my kneecap without these. A much more minor fall awhile back led to a sprained MCL and six weeks of recovery, but this time, I stood up, hiked back up to my skis, and continued on my way. These are super lightweight and fit nicely. They're articulated and don't restrict my movement in any way. For the most part, I barely even notice they're there. The only drawback I can think of is that the strap is elastic; it can be difficult to determine how tight to make them when putting them on so that they stay in place but don't squeeze. After wearing them a few times, though, I figured it out, and it was never that big of a deal to step into the restroom and adjust them.
Super functional, super comfortable!
I'm a volunteer ski patroller at Mt. Hood OR and am going through an advanced medical course that has me on the ground for 15-20 minutes at a time with patients. I got lucky a couple of weeks ago and the Telekneesis pads showed up right before my first training and saved my knees! I just got through an all-day training last weekend and not only did the knee pads save my knees, they never slipped down at all, stayed comfortable (and dry!) and kept me warmer than I would have been otherwise. Two thumbs (or knees) up on these!
