Good for items you might not mind losing...
I do love these, but I had one break when I kinda feel it shouldn't have, took a little swinger into some ice on rappel and it torqued and snapped, lost my ice tool 30 ft into the creek at Ouray ice park :( It happens and it's mostly my fault but I have seriously reconsidered hanging expensive ice hardware on these now. Glad it wasn't a half rack of screws! Will try to go back and look for it in the late summer when the water level is low haha
Gear clip that can't be beat
I use two of these to carry most of my ice screws on my harness during climbing. The inner clip of the Caritool allows it to attach itself securely to the webbing band of the harness. Unlike its competitor, the inner clip is pretty large and deep, so it is more stable. These are strictly for carrying ice screws or other gear; they are not to be used as a carabiner. If you want something more versatile (that can be used as a carabiner and gear clip) then getting a wiregate carabiner will do. Otherwise, these are great since they give way for more room on your gear loop on your harness.
poorly designed wiregates
I bought 4 of these. 3 of them are missing their wire gate, one season later. The gate is not well attached to the plastic body. It takes only a bit of torque at the wrong angle, and off flies the gate, followed by half the ice screws on your harness.
Good for more than just ice climbing!!!
This is Great for storing gear quickly on you harness. Whether a quickdraw or a figure 8 it is easy to snap you gear into the gate for storage. One drawback is that Petzl's GriGri does not fit over the wire spring gate. This it a bit slower to remove gear from the Caritool.
