Good product
I bought these to help when I play soccer and basketball. They work very well. They are comfortable and very easy to out on and take off. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because they stretch out easily. I had bought the large, but they were not tight enough for my liking. The medium was very nice the first few times I used them. But after that I have to tighten them all the way to the up, using up all the velcro. I fear the small would be way to tight to use. So, I am going to sew them up a little and take up some of the slack.
Works like a charm!
I LOVE backpacking. But about five years ago my knees were giving me major problems. I eventually had to give up even short day hikes because I couldn't make it down the mountain, due to the stabbing pain in my knees. I was desperate and decided to give these little guys a try. They made all the difference in the world. I can hike uphill and downhill now without even worrying about my knees. I've tackled good four day treks out into the wilderness, hiking steep trails that I couldn't even consider doing before with heavy packs.
these work!
These straps work surprisingly well for avoiding knee pain, especially hiking downhill. I've tried many different brands and these are among the most comfortable because they don't chafe behind the knee. They're lightweight and breathable, and they wash and dry well. I just wish they came in neutral colors (like tan) so they're not so obvious. But these are almost miraculous in their ability to prevent knee pain--a simple fix for a major problem.
FINALLY found support for runner's knee!
I have been searching for a knee brace for my knee for literally MONTHS. I've had worsening pain from runners knee (not a runner, pretty sure it developed via hiking) and was desperate for something to offer support so I could heal. THIS IS IT. I was very doubtful because all the others I tried (3!!) were much fancier looking and seemed to have the bells and whistles to make it a better product. Turns out I didn't need all that. I love that this brace is so easy to put on and take off, does not make me feel extra sweaty around my knee, and offers just the right support. Remember, this is REI, so if you don't have the excellent experience I had, you have a great return policy! I cannot recommend trying it out more highly. Very grateful I went for it.
It really works!
I started hiking regularly a year ago and then my knee started to hurt - my orthopedic surgeon said it was because my knee is slightly not aligned right I am prone to patella tendonitis. I do the exercises he told me to do but still anytime I hike more than 8 miles my knee starts to bother me. My knee was hurting right before my trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon and I was desperate so I picked up this brace with heavy skepticism... and I was really surprised it worked really well!! I hiked up and down the canyons and no pain! I cannot believe how this little brace is able to do such wonders. It's was hot there but I didn't feel the brace being restrictive or too sweaty. After wearing it for 3 full days of hiking, the stretchy band has loosened an inch or so. So I suggest getting the smallest size possible, as long as you can stick an inch of the velcro to start. Then it will stretch out and fit with all of the velcro being secured.
Great for chronic knee pain
I've had chronic knee pain for the last 5 years, especially after strenuous activities. I purchased the patellar tendon strap about a month ago and have used the strap on a few hikes, trail runs, yoga classes, and palates. The product has helped my knee during performance and decreased the pain afterwards more than any other knee brace I have owned. I can't wait to try during ski season and see if has the same impact!
Excellent for Patellar Tendonitis
A few years ago I bailed on Mt Rainier due to extreme patellar tendonitis. I have used several types of big bulky knee straps to try and combat it but they never worked and usually gave me sores on the back of my knees. After finding these straps my knees are 100% better. I have now done a one day climb of Mt Adams with ZERO pain. This strap is perfect for mountaineering since its so light weight and easy to use. If you have knee problems, specifically Patellar Tendonitis, get these straps!
Excellent Knee Support for hiking
I have no problems with my knees; I bought the product so it supports my knees during a rough hike in King's Canyon National Park. The product works wonderfully; I can feel they support my knees during the strenuous hike; I carried about 37 lbs of pack. I highly recommend this product for any knee injury prevention; I use it for 3-mile daily run as well. I will buy them again in the future.
Works for Me!
After running my first 1/2 marathon my knee started to hurt... I might've overworked my knees sprinting to the finish line. I did a lot of researched and came across this strap... I picked up a pair of them one for each knee. After using them for a couple days it seems like it stabilized my knee. The material is very comfortable and breathable. You can use it while you exercise with them on for added stability. It's a pretty simple product when you think of it but it does help out a lot. I highly recommend it.
Works just fine
I use this for bike riding and hiking. I originally got a small according to the size chart because I have slim legs but it wouldn't even reach around my leg. So I got a medium and it works just fine. So I guess it would run small.
