I have been using these Shimano SPD-SL Cleats for years and incredible performance. Easy mount and dismount. Love the Yellow! Super light weight. Steady platform and energy transfer. Just the right amount of float. Easy to Install. I don't see wearing anything else. Glad REI sells such a great cleat.
I change this about annually, or about 3,000 miles, which in the Seattle area means a lot of grinds up 10% hills. The tip of the cleat is nicely reinforced and doesn't wear down as fast as the tips of the Look Delta cleats I used for decades, but when the back of the cleat starts to deteriorate, I know it by getting a clunking sound when applying maximum torque up steep grades. If you've been fitted for the cleats or have a position with them you like, you can spray paint over you old cleats before removing them and use that as your outline for installing the new cleats. Grease the threads of the bolts and torque to 5nm (I use a Ritchey torque key for that).
There was enough wiggle in the cleats to try/tighten/try/tighten a few times, and I have been using them, probably around 5-7 times now. I might need a bit more adjustment to get it aligned just right, but it seems like there is enough shimmy in these cleats to get it perfect. All in all, do recommend! Only thing is that I wish these came with some instructions on how to get the perfect fit for yourself, I had to look up some videos online on how to get the fit adjusted to myself.
I commute to work 15 miles a day and take my vacations via bicycle with tours ranging from 500-1500 miles. I loved these for about the first 500 miles. The plastic at the back of the cleat started to roll and wear badly by about 750 miles and they were about useless due to deformity before 1,000 miles. I had to replace them. As the plastic wore down, they became increasingly difficult to clip in, especially the left foot. At the end, they were difficult to release too. Unfortunate that the plastic is such poor quality because I really liked this system at the beginning.
I average about 100 miles a week, including 2 commute days. My commute is right through downtown, so I have to stop and unclip a lot. The yellow"wear points" rip off my left shoe within 2 months. Bought a replacement set, same thing. Going to try a different brand since the 105 pedals make a lot of noise.
Outstanding and work well with my clips. I buy multiple at a time, because I usually go through 2 in a season. Compared to other options these do have the smoothest clip in.
These are simple to use cleats for first time or novice bikers- probably old school and too heavy for those who are advanced road bikers. Be cognizant that you may have to do some additional adjustments after your first ride. If your cleat isn't aligned properly, it can cause your knees to hurt- particularly since these have the float factor. These are compatible with the peloton delta clips.
The real deal and it makes a difference. I bought some off Amazon that were listed as these cleats. It was obvious they weren't even though they exactly the same. By cleats from a reputable store like REI. It's worth it.
I have used these cleats for many years. They last me around 4000 miles...if you go to the very end of their life. Easy step in and rotate out.
I've tried other brands, and Shimanon's system is my favorite because it's very stable and easy to clip into. This design has a good amount of surface area which contributes to the stability. My last pair lasted over 4,000 miles & now it's time to replace them. It's a single sided entry system, but it's great because the pedals are always hanging in position for a smooth clip-in.
