It's okay
I bought this as my outdoor activities watch. I've worn it camping, hiking, horseback riding, in foul weather and fair and it works just fine. Reliable, easy to use and the alarm and stopwatch features are handy. I would recommend it with the caveat that it needs the backlight in conditions that I don't think it should. The problem with this watch is the display. In anything other than fairly bright light, it can be difficult to read. And in low light you have to use the backlight feature to read it. If I'm out at dawn/dusk or indoors in decent but not bright lighting, I have to use the backlight feature. This is a real pain if I'm doing something that requires both hands.
Happy consumer
Great watch for everyday use. Alarms, 24 hour time option, indiglo light, chronograph and water resistant up to so many meters. Great price for a great watch. I recommend trying it out. I'll be buying from Timex from now on.
Would buy again
As expected but comfortable. I've had Timexes before, same experience as before. Durable watch, bright light, easy to read, comfortable to wear.
Laps are not retrievable
I bought this watch to replace my old Ironman Triathlon watch to track mile splits in a marathon last weekend. It was comfortable and the splits were easy to click and they showed up nicely for 10 seconds which was cool. Problem was that when I went to review and post the splits, there was no way to retrieve them. Called Timex Tech Support who after 15 minutes on hold told me that they this watch does not record and were therefore not retrievable. They then said I should have gotten a higher end model. REI misinformed me accidentally. Beware! if you want to record splits, do not buy this watch. I am going to try and return this watch today without the box.
Definetly not waterproof
So I've had this watch twice. The first time I wore it in a pool ( I didn't go deeper than maybe 2 feet and the pool was only 9 feet deep) and as soon as I got out I noticed the whole face was cloudy and I couldn't read the time, luckily after a few hours it all evaporated and I was able to read the time again. Than the band just gave out one day and it fell off my wrist. The second time I got this same watch I took it in the pool again and the face got fogged up but this time it did not evaporate! If it wasn't for the return policy that REI has for its members, I would give this a one star
Timex Expedition watch: durable, reliable, a value
I’ve used many Timex Expedition watches over the years and they work great for me. They have simple, useful features (alarm, chronograph, illuminated face for night viewing) and a slim profile that fits under your sleeve (unlike many outdoor watches). My watch is brutally tested in my outdoor activities, especially whitewater rafting so it’s shock and water resistance is heavily tested. I purchased my last Timex Expedition watch in May of 2020 so I only got 7 months of use out of it before buying a replacement. I normally get about 12-14 months from these watches but you never know how long they were sitting in a display case before you bought one. The Timex Expedition watch is a low cost and dependable watch that works well with its features, and fits well under a shirt sleeve where most outdoor watches with all the bells and whistles don’t. They work really well for me and are a good deal for right around $50-$55 dollars! They are great for people active in the outdoors as I have tested my watches at anywhere between minus 20 degrees F to 125 degrees F, getting drenched in rapids and slammed with oar handles! They are durable and reliable and have worked well for me for many years!
Lots of uses packed in a small space
This is my 2nd watch of this model. Not many watches out there with all these functions. Great for daily use, especially with 3 different alarms to help remind me when I need to be at the next event of the day. Also great for timing kids in their sports events. I also needed a waterproof watch for work. Wish the band in the mid-size had more color choices. The velcro took about 5 yrs to wear out, even with rough daily use. The face did scratch, but I was hard on it.
A Great Basic Outdoor Watch
I really like this watch! This is the second one I've had of this brand with these features. This one is improved with the addition of a large black button at the bottom of the watch face to turn on the backlight. While this isn't a fancy smart watch, it needs no recharging or special attention, and it runs for years on a single battery. It does everything I need a watch to do.
Older folks remember "It takes a licking..."
I have lost track of how many "Expeditions" I have had...maybe 5. The Indiglo (the night light) feature is something I must have...and after many years it will fail. I love the whole watch and the improvements that the Timex team continues to come up with to make it easier to get around the functions, set, rely on, and keeping the cost down. This greenish model I love...it is unobtrusive, thin enough to fit under long sleeve cuffs, and has a surprisingly attractive band. Setting the functions is very easy and intuitive. As an every day watch it lives up to the old Timex saying, "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!" There will always be as Expedition on my wrist!
This watch is invincible
I had this watch when I was around 12 years old or so, I went camping, swimming, did a 5k centered around trudging through thick mud, and this thing held strong. The strap is rough on the wrist, but man does it make up for it with durability. At some point I had left it in the car during a hot day, and it actually melted part of the plastic display. Against all odds this absolute tank of a watch still worked for 9 years until I lost it. Absolutely going to get another one because ive never been so impressed by a product that I actually leave a review.
