Careful if crossbars aren't adjustable!

The rack didn't fit my car because the crossbars are fixed, and the mounting hardware will only attach to the spaces BETWEEN the horizontal bars on the basket. The way my crossbars are spaced, if I mount the front basket attachments correctly, the rear crossbar ends up right below one of the horizontal bars on the rack, and there's no way to mount it. It seemed like a great, sturdy product and I even mocked my Yakima FrontLoader bike rack on top of it - if I were able to mount the basket, the Frontloader would work perfectly with it. I docked 1 star because I'm sure Yakima could have come up with a more flexible mounting solution. As it is, I'm forced to return it and try the Thule MOAB instead. I admit, my car was not listed as compatible with this rack - I thought it was because of the size of the rack, but now I realize it's because of the crossbar spread.

Large Cost Low Load Capacity

I needed a rack with good weight capacity and volume. I thought Yakima was the one. I spoke with REI staff at two stores about weight capacity and they said "It depends on your car rack capacity". I said my car rack capacity is 185 pounds based on the manual. I checked on line and looked for specific specifications as to the RACK weight capacity. I could find nothing. I bought the rack based on the discussions with REI staff (They did look in the manuals to obtain any information available from the manufacturer). Upon receiving the rack and opening the box I started reading the directions. The first page in large letters said MAXIMUM CAPACITY 135 POUNDS. WHAT?? I am not going to pay that much money for a low weight capacity rack!! I went on line and checked other sources and brand names. Found a rack with 165 pound capacity for less (rack + extension + wind fairing + shipping.) Weight capacity was confirmed with a telephone call to the product distributer. Less cost and greater weight capacity and better product specifications!

Awesome Rack

This Rack is amazing!!! I bought this rack along with the extension section and it fits the top of my Hummer H3 like a glove and looks great up there too. This thing can handle all the gear you need to carry. From camping, to off-roading, to loading 10 8 foot 4x4 posts on it it just plain handles it ALL. I am very please with this rack and the extension. REI was great with helping me order it and having it shipped fast.

Great roof rack

Rack is very easy to assemble, light weight, and durable, you can buy the net they make for the rack, but I just used ratchet straps. Very pleased

Had this mounted for 13 years!!!! Buy it!

My wife and I mounted this rack on our 2005 Nissan Xterra after we bought it. It's been amazing. I just took it off this week to sand off a little (very little) surface rust to repaint with truck bed liner spray this weekend. It's amazing how well everything came off. We've owned this vehicle from Texas to Arizona to Upstate NY and back to Texas. Hence, it's been exposed to extreme humidity, heat, cold, snow, salt, and back to heat. I came on line just to check pricing on buying new hardware to remount it. The current hardware is all in ok shape, but I thought it would be nice replace with new if cost is reasonable. If you want a rook basket - buy this one! You won't be disappointed. Let me know if anyone wants to see photo. I already started sanding with dremel is few minor spots.

Megawarrior is awesome!

Picked this up on a rod trip in the Nashville area. Had the great folks of REI assemble the rack and even install it on my car. Since I was away from home, this was a big time saver. Rack works great for what I need it for. Sizing is great on a Subaru Outback G5.

Fits the newer Outback with factory bars

Got it at Garage Sale today. Thinking I will buy the extension as well. Looks like it should fit and not interfer with the tailgate.

poor quality

I bought this rack to go with my yakima bars. The rack looks great although it’s an outdated design. The welds are poor and the powder coat is weak. Once you load things up top you will realize how easily the finish scratches. Soon all the scratches will turn to rust spots. I see myself having to re powder coat the rack within two years. For what you get it is not worth it. There are much better quality racks out there from smaller companies.

15,000 Miles, No Rust

This rack is a beast. I have it mounted on 54 Yakima round crossbars on top of my 2008 Subaru Outback. I have driven approximately 15,000 miles varying for highway speeds for hours, through potholed dirt mountain roads, in down pours and thunderstorms over the past 4 months with it loaded down without a problem. I currently have a Elie Kayak mounted on Yakima Evenkeel mounts attached directly to the rack as well as a large all-weather storage case and cooler. The only issue is the non-security minded mounting. There are threaded knobs with L-shaped thin bolts which attach to thick plastic u-brackets for quick mounting and dismounting. I have addressed this with a kryptonite chain lock wrapped through the two sections of rack and my roof rails to dissuade someone from removing it.

Soooo Useful!

For the price I was a bit disappointed that it did not have the net included and it was another [$]. But it is rugged. I already had forgotten it was there and tried to get into a underground parking lot. It took a hit but not even the fiber glass front panel was scratched. No paint came off. Thats all right. Plus easy to take off and on.

It will get the job done

I installed this on my Jeep Liberty in an 1/2 hour. Easy to install, minimal tools required. It's nice and stable and comes with an air deflecter. I use it for camping and its nice to have all that free space in the cab for passengers.
