Great taste, less filling

My husband and I have made Mountain House a staple in our camping gear. Their portions are normally generous, the taste great, and the cleanup, of course, easy. However, the portion size of the granola with blueberries seems small to me. The package is two servings, yet is nowhere near filling for me, and I'm tiny. I took a package to work with me to test it out before camping, and I'm glad I did. My stomach was still growling after I finished the package. I do enjoy the taste, though. For breakfast, I'd pack two of these packages, but one will do for a light mid-day treat.

Still hungry...

Mountain House is usually my go-to maker of freeze-dried food, both for taste and value for the money. This granola gets high marks for taste and texture (you can make it as crunchy or milky as you want by adjusting the water). Where I'm disappointed with this one is the serving size; this package was maybe half of what I was hoping for just for myself, and if it's really meant for two people each one would only get a few spoonfuls. I routinely eat MH's two-serving meals all by myself and find them to be enough, but unless they increase the portion size I'll be bagging my own granola.

Num num in the tum tum!

It's quick n' easy and one I don't mind having leftover milk for (if I pour in too much water)! To save on bear canister space you can empty the contents in a ziploc baggie and use it as your garbage/pack out bag.

Much better than most freezedried. Perfect for me.

Everyone has their own preferences obviously as you can see from the other reviews of this product. Some wish it was bigger, some change up the packaging, some use hot water and less of it. For me, I love everything about this and it is now my go-to for every remote breakfast and even for my disaster prep bag. I think it is delicious. I love the texture. I find it very convenient to mix it in its package and then ziplock it back up to keep things tidy. I found the amount to be perfect for just me for breakfast - along with one or two cups of coffee, I am ready to pack up and go. I absolutely love that I can make it with cold water and it is ready quickly.

Yum....

First time I tried this it was -20 and we were in a remote wilderness cabin. I used hot water, and less than the instructions called for, to make a hot oatmeal breakfast. It was just what I needed. I can't really imagine eating it with cold water, and more of it. Just stocked up on a bunch while on sale to use this summer & fall. May also use as a dinner when the other meals are too much. The package is smaller, lighter and enough for one person. I like that the sodium is much lower also. Highly recommend.

Tasty on a cold morning

On a recent backpacking trip into Dolly Sods Wilderness, I woke up on a cold morning wishing I had a warm breakfast. My boyfriend was sitting on a rock chomping on his granola and blueberries and suggested I use less water than he did. I took it a step further and used HOT water. It made it taste like blueberry oatmeal and it was exactly what I needed to get going that morning. Definitely serve it up hot! My boyfriend tried mine and agreed that hot made it even better. I would suggest using a little less water than he did. Overall, it was a really tasty breakfast!

MRE? I wish it'd been in our C-Rations in '79...

As a Disaster Relief worker, meals are often what you can find. The damage in Panama City was so bad even Wal-Mart was closed, but the Army had MREs they shared with displaced citizens, and workers. Granola isn't something I eat these days; it's hard for me to chew. I had a package left over from an MRE, tho, & decided to try it with milk. Not only was is easy to eat, it was without a doubt the Best "Cereal" I've EVER eaten. I can still taste it as i tap the keys, lol. This is a link I'll Save!

Yes! Great final day breakfast.

I love that this only requires cold water, so if fuel is short this is the perfect last day breakfast. The milk was sweet, the blueberries were bountiful and tasty and the granola was hardy. I would eat this at home.

Outstanding

I'm not normally one to write reviews, but I thought backpacking food deserves to be reviewed as you will likely not have other options in the backcountry. I really enjoy this meal for breakfast while backpacking. It's very light and easy to prepare. I listened to other reviewers who replace the cold water with hot water, and it makes a great warm breakfast on chilly mountain mornings.

Another delicious Mountain House meal.

I have tried many brands of freeze dried, dehydrated and mre meals and hands down Mountain House are my favorite. I had purchased on of the variety packs a while back and the Granola with Milk and Blueberries were in the box. I had several people over to try different meals and this one was so good I ordered 6 more pouches. It is both great as a cold cereal during the warmer months and hot cereal on those cold days. As an emergency responder as well as hiker/camper these meals are part of both my camp meal load out and emergency response kit for times we get deployed in the field.
