Yakima round bars

What can I say? They are round and they are roof bars. I was a little surprised at the flex I could get out them once installed. My initial impression is that they are not as stiff as some older Yakima bars I have. The wall thickness on the new bars appears to be 1 mm less, this probably accounting for the extra flex. Would have been nice if they'd come with end caps.

Bigger is better

I've used Yakima bars for years and my only complaint is the end caps. When changing out the system the end caps collect debris and cause rust and break when removing them. I have 78's on a Ford Excusrion and they are the perfect size for 5 bikes or 3 bikes and a canoe. Other than the end caps I love them.

Canoe rack

This is the second set I have purchased in 30 years. The older set was donated to my son. The length of the bars insures enough width to secure a canoe and kayak side by side with room to spare.

Great Bars!

These bars stand up to the rough & tough wear & tear that I can dish out on them. They really hold up. I've had them on my trucks for years! You can use them to haul anything -- bikes, kayaks, skis, even futons & wooden picnic tables!

pretty good, but

I put them on my car and almost right away bike riders started colliding with them while my car was parallel parked, even if I tied thick, long red rags to the ends. I took these back. You need to put these on a tall van or SUV for them not to whack people. It really messed up one of them.

As Expected

Longer Bars bend more easily than the shorter ones. I don't know if the bending will be permanent yet. My application is outside the normal recommended uses so I'm taking my chances. Round bars are very versatile.
