Fitment of the spring-loaded mantle
The mantle looks good, and I purchased 4 of them (2 pair packages). The spring allows quick installation of the mantle so you don't need to fiddle with tying knots and then snipping off the extra length of string. However, in my case, the spring clip of one of the two mantles I did install does not completely encircle the mount, and as a result is partly off. Since these are spring steel I don't believe it could have been bent out of shape during installation given the ease of installation, so probably a defect in production. Still works however, but very likely to fall off entirely if the lantern is jostled or bumped. Will revert to string tied instead of spring loaded mantles going forward!

I use a new one every time I go camping
Glad that REI is carrying these. I have a Coleman lantern
Rock solid.
Used to replace an outdoor house lamp. Just works as expected.
good
These always feel old timey to use. Hate when it is time to replace one that is torn or fallen off in the lantern.
OEM Mantle Replacements
If you have a small Coleman later these are must have items. They work great
Great light and affordable!
Actually in Alaska and there are areas where there is no electricity nor any utilities. This one that uses white gas puts out a bright light. I am looking for another lantern which is a necessity in the winter here. In Anchorage the street lights come on at 3:30. This type is more doable long term and when access to stores is difficult.
Not as bright or durable as the old Silk-Lites
These new mantles are not as bright or durable as the old Silk-Lites. They're better than none I guess. I've switched over to the other brand which can still be found with thorium instead of Yttrium.

Tie-on mantles are best mantles
My local REI store was the only place that had these in stock. The product itself is of great quality and thankfully not clip-on (AKA the devils mantles). I will definitely purchase them again.
Necessary spares for your coleman lantern
Necessary for any coleman lantern users. They're cheap, easy to use, last a long time, and easy to carry spares with you in case one burns out or gets damaged while on a trip.
Reliable
If you still use a butane lantern than you need these. Fortunately Coleman still makes them and in a time of more popular LED lanterns, REI still stocks them in the store.
