Necessary pocket tool kit
I have had a Huntsman in my pocket for 40 years (since 1974). It doesn't make any difference the time of year, it is 'the one tool kit' that I always find the easiest to reach for and most versatile. Every facet of this knife has been used time-and-time-again, even the saw (who would have thought?). If I were to make any changes/additions ... I wouldn't. It is already self-contained. It is not too big (as are other brands of multi-tools), it is not too small and it stands up to a multitude of uses and abuses. It really is a pocket-sized tool kit and a must have for hiking, backpacking, camping and everyday use. I would never think of leaving home without it!
Don't leave home without it
A friend indeed! I use this knife for everything. There is not a feature that is wasted. It is the most versatile knife I have ever owned. I have had a Huntsman in my pocket of on my belt over 30 years and do not believe a day goes by when I don't use it (unless I am sick!). The saw is impressive and comes in handy more than one would think. The knife truly is a spare toolkit. It is rugged and takes a lot of punishment for some of the jobs it is called upon to do. The blades hold an edge. The scissors are sharp and the spring action is a huge plus. The can opener really works. I have not lost many, but am so accustomed to having one, I keep a spare handy.
Love the sawblade!
I really am glad to have this knife. It wads important to me to get a folding knife that among other things also had a sawblade available. I certainly don't see myself going out and cutting a big pile of wood with this blade, but I can think of a number of times that I wish I had a short little sawblade for cutting a small piece of wood or two while out and about. Naturally, it is a high quality productd and fits nicely in my pocket. I'm also pleased to have the hook as one of the tools--I wondered what I would use it for, but now whenever I pick up a hot pot or need to grab some twine and pull I use this tool instead of my bare hands and it just works great.
The Best
This was my first Swiss Army knife, and it is still my favorite. The woodsaw is great for cutting crusty bread. The scissors cuts quickly, and the two blades are great for opening boxes or whittling marshmallow sticks. I added the mini-screwdriver (fits in corkscrew)for fixing eyeglasses. The two screwdrivers are great for around the house chores (tightening drawer handles, changing batteries). With practice, I mastered the can opener. The bottle opener is very handy. I have looked at other Victorinox swiss army knives, but I keep going back to this one--great for travel.
What every woman needs!
This is my 2nd "Huntsman" in 30 yrs. My first one was a mothers' day gift, confiscated at the airport by TSA! I've used this knife for everything: setting up camp, making a walking staff, trimming my nails, cutting twist ties, removing splinters, tightening screws, picnic wine & cheese prep & more. The blades stay sharp and the tools can be replaced as needed, though in all this time the only thing I've replaced was the tweezers. The quality of this knife is outstanding. It is THE most practical "survival accessory" for the city, suburbs or wilderness!
Amazingly Useful
I carry it anytime I camp, hike, ski, travel, I even carry it to the office. When Camping I use it over 20 times a day. Traveling maybe 10 times. The scissors work for cutting plastic wrappers, fingernails, paper, zip ties. There is not a feature that I don’t use. I lost one a few years ago and immediately purchased a new replacement. This is the best combination knife ever. The blade keeps sharp enough to perform surgery. My co-campers are always borrowing it during hikes and for preparing meals. Keeping track of it the most difficult part as freinds use it constantly. A great gift. Buy it and keep it forever. You will not be disappointed. I wish one came with a metal handle.
Victorinox Huntsman
This is the third Huntsman I've owned. Victorinox seems better than the other "Swiss" manufacturers, but I've still managed to destroy them over several years. Once I added a micro screwdriver to the corkscrew, I have everything I need except pliers and a metal file- which are on my Leatherman. So the Huntsman is a pretty good compromise when packing light. Good to note that when you order the micro screwdriver, or need to replace the spring on the scissors, Swiss Army doesn't charge shipping anymore.
Includes a needed Saw Blade for Survival
With the light but strong nylon handle and light aluminum interior tool separaters, this LIGHT but STRONG knife w/the very precision steel tools is the best for the outback. This is one of the few survial tools with an extremly awesome saw blade. I have owned this exact knife for right at 25 years. Have easily butchered a hog with the very sharp knife blade, too. I own many knives, but I cannot say enough good things about this knife.
My most prized possession - for 63 years.
My dad gave me this Swiss Army Knife model when I turned eight. I am now 71. I still have it. It is faded and the spring on the scissor broke long ago. Because of restrictions on carrying it on planes, it doesn't travel as far as it used to. It is still my favorite knife. I will keep it forever.
Best Knife Ever
If you need a knife that has a little bit of everything and you are an outdoorsman, you will appreciate this knife to the fullest. I have had 3 in 30 years, but I just realized they are lifetime guaranteed, so I am getting my last one repaired and will have 2. One for each pocket.
