Great pant . I have about four pairs of th regular Alpine pant..only one big let down. The front pocket on the left leg is too low and when you have items in that pocket they bounce off your knee cap.. either made that pocket half in size so the items can't hang that low or totally raise that pocket at least four to five inches.. I absolutely love Royal Robbins pants but I probably won't be buying these again they're not cheap and for the design floor of that nature not worth it...
I have three pairs of the regular Alpine Mountain pants- they are my favorite pants. The features that I like the most, that carried over to the Alpine Mountain Pro style, is the cell phone pocket and the drawstring at ankles. That’s it. Everything else has changed. The one improvement is the multi-flex waistband. Everything else is a step backward for me. The fabric has pros/cons. It’s “stretchy” which is good but it’s heavier and sort of rubbery. Fabric changes: Pro (this product, style 122-Y424014-184): 88% polyester, 12% Elastane Regular Alpine (Style 44157) 66% Nylon, 31%polyester, 3% spandex I liked the lighter (regular) nylon version better. I wear the pants year round so less breathable is good for winter IMO. The original nylon mix was lighter and it didn’t stink like polyester tends to do-that’s another con for using fabric with so much polyester. I like the fastener on the original better than the new “Locking snap”- some that has to do with my age and having difficulty lining up the little “catch” to fasten the waste-band. The thigh pocket is a disappointment. It’s too low and on the left lower thigh so anything you put in the pocket is on/at the knee. I like the horizontal right-side upper-thigh pocket best. When they switched to the vertical pocket I was a little miffed but came to appreciate it when using it while sitting in my truck. But moving it to the lower-left is, well, dumb to say it nicely. My review expresses my disappointment in comparison to the former version of the pant. They fit great and I’ll wear them and get good use from them, but they will not replace my favorite pants.
