I’m disappointed with the durability of my Mantis 26. After normal daily use, both bottom corners have worn through, and one shoulder strap has half its stitching blown out while the other is beginning to tear. The white interior liner stains instantly and can’t be cleaned, making the bag look worn out far too quickly. This is not the level of quality I expect from Arc’teryx. I’ve actually gone back to using my 25-year-old Mountain Equipment Co-op pack, which has held up better than this one.
I just received my Mantis 26 in the Lodestar color today. At the time of writing, REI hasn’t uploaded a product photo for this color, so if you're unsure what it looks like, feel free to check out the pictures I’ve attached (note: I’ve already removed the waist strap). In my opinion, the color strikes a great balance—if black/gold feels too bold, Lodestar offers a stylish and more neutral alternative. I really like it! I bought this pack primarily for everyday commuting and occasional one-day hikes, but its 26L capacity also makes it a great option for light travel. The organization is thoughtful: it features two separate front pockets (they don’t share the same space), a mid-sized pocket (which isn’t very large), and a roomy main compartment. Inside, there’s a sleeve that fits a 13-inch laptop or a hydration bladder. That said, I do have a couple of suggestions for improvement. First, the shoulder straps are quite narrow—some smaller packs actually use wider ones—which affects long-term comfort. Second, I wish the bottom had a flat or reinforced base so the pack could stand on its own when set down.
Honestly, not sure what the hype is all about. I love their products in general, In particular the ski clothes as the quality is outstanding. I bought this backpack with great anticipation only to be continually let down. Two of my biggest frustrations are the first being. The shoulder straps are far too narrow if you put any weight in this thing at all and they tend to dig into your shoulders. Unbelievable how something this simple was overlooked. The second real glaring omission is there is no strap across the backpack that you can put it on the handle of a rolling suitcase when you're traveling... again very odd that they would admit such a common normal accessory on backpacks today. I really can't endorse this backpack at all and will be replacing it very shortly
This is the only pack i carry, from scrambles in the mountains to carry on for flights to Mexico and even just for taking my daughter to events, it has the best compartment configuration and it holds a Yeti Rambler 1.3L bottle in the mesh pockets, the only pack ever needed (for daytrips), best money ive spent in a long time. Carried a 20Lb chunk of unique rock off the mountain and barely knew it was in there its so comfortable.
I used this Arc'teryx bag for air travel and commuting to work. It was a replacement for the previous iteration of the Mantis backpack after the main zipper failed. Similarly, with this version of the Mantis, I had the main compartment zipper fail in under 3 years of use. The durability is lacking for a company that markets itself as producing premium outdoors equipment. Arc'teryx also does not stand by their product as they were unwilling to repair or replace the zipper under their "practical product lifespan." Maybe I am naive, but I would expect more than 3 years of low impact use from a backpack.
I use this bag as my airplane carry on, it holds my laptop perfectly in the back pouch while also holding all my climbing gear in the main pocket & my tablet in the front compartment. I also love that you can access the main pocket from the side *or* the top so you have access to everything without having to open it from the top. The top compartment folds over to act as a cover for the main pouch and also has two compartments one accessible from the outside and one accessible from the inside I usually use that for things like, my headphones, wallet, gum, snacks, etc. Things you'd want quicker access to especially on a flight/ at an airport. Would highly recommend this bag for travel & climbing/hiking trips.
Great backpack for my drinking glasses, clothes, and everything. The waterproof backpack allows me to avoid worrying about getting wet in harsh environments
This pack took me up Mount Olympus and beyond, have carried it for over 3 years, hasn't failed me. When this pack eventually gives up on me, I will be buying another. Ample storage for all of my edc items, and then some ontop of that, fits a MacBook Air 13 inch in the bladder compartment if needed.
A nice replacement for my 8 year old Arcteryx Sebring pack with the failing zippers. Would have been nice to have a choice of colour other than black. The hip belt is a joke and serves no actual purpose. The bag designers thoughtfully made it easy to remove.
I like a lot of parts about this pack and it generally looks nice. However, the way the pockets are designed caused the top part of the pack to sag over the bottom, making it look really strange.
