Features

  • Nanovent® is a Samaya proprietary waterproof/breathable fabric specifically created for use in single-walled tents
  • The fabric is optimized for the ideal balance between rainproof and breathable to help manage the accumulated humidity inside the tent
  • 7-denier Nanovent® walls are waterproof to 10,000 mm
  • 20-denier nylon floor is resistant up to 3,000 mm of water column pressure per hydrostatic head tests
  • Humidity from respiration inside the tent is managed by the Nanovent® 40,000 g/m²/24 hr. of breathability
  • Single-walled tents are more wind-resistant due to their integration of the walls and structure into a single element
  • This freestanding tent resists wind up to 62 mph in wind tunnel tests
  • Ultralight 18 g/m² Dyneema® Composite Fabric (DCF) is used on both vestibules to reduce volume and weight
  • Vestibules have dual anchor points: 1 higher for better airflow and 1 lower to help keep splashing rain from bouncing up under the sides
  • Vestibules permit easy access from both sides and add 9.8 sq. ft. to each side for gear, footwear, etc.
  • Freestanding design uses the lightest 8.6 mm diameter Samaya Carbon X poles; poles are red, making them easier to see on the ground when packing the tent
  • Together the poles weigh a mere 9.1 oz. and pack down to 12.2 in. long
  • Secure the tent (especially in windy conditions) with 10 DAC aluminum J.Stakes(F); together they weigh a scant 2.5 oz.
  • 3-person format is optimized for minimum weight and carry volume at an internal space of 37.13 sq. ft.
  • Interior space is optimized for 2 backpackers in an ultralight style: The tent is 61 in. wide at the head and 57 in. wide at the feet, and the length is 90.5 in.
  • The arch of the dual poles has a peak interior height of 43.3 in.
  • Dual doors each have 2 sliders that meet in the corners to make for quick and easy ingress and egress
  • Bugproof mesh fabric on both doors enhances airflow
  • Mesh sits above a 10-denier water-repellent fabric, which blocks splashing rain drops from bouncing under the vestibule and onto the floor
  • Store items you want easy access to in the wall mesh pocket; dry items in the upper mesh loft
  • Integrated pole sleeves have reflective guylines with Dyneema® cores; they encapsulate the poles for better stability and retention in high winds
  • Quick to pitch via the continuous external pole sleeves; sleeves are closed on one end so that the poles are automatically set into their termination pockets
  • Adjustable pole tensioners enable perfect tension adjustment in all conditions, including wet and cold
  • Split the tent components up among your group to keep your pack light; tent-body weight to pole-and-stake weight ratio is 73%:27%
  • Tent body compresses down to only 221.6 cu. in. stuffed into the slick Dyneema® Composite Fabric (DCF) roll-top stuff sack and weighs only 2 lbs 1.2 oz. (body and stuff sack)
  • Poles and stakes have their own stuff sacks and together weigh only 12.1 oz. (poles, stakes and stuff sacks)
  • Optional INSTANT3 footprint (not included) adds another 6.3 oz. when required

Almost the perfect 3+ season tent

Overall favorite luxury 2p (aka 3P tent) I’ve used. Very lightweight, carbon poles are short enough to fit horizontally into backpack, breathable yet as strong as regular dyneema for the walls, built in dual vestibules, long enough for a 6’3” person on a 4”+ pad and comfy pillow to not touch either end, dyneema guylines included, simple pitch. Almost the perfect tent in my opinion for 3+ season use. Only thing that wasn’t super clear is that the tent at the head end really needs stakes in the ground to take shape - so don’t think is a true freestanding but somewhere between semi freestanding and true freestanding. But putting 2 stakes in the ground at head end and 2 guylines makes it a super roomy and high ultralight backpacking tent. I have a 3.0 and the base camp Samaya tents for winter time and tried Samaya other tents for 3 season use and found them to be either too short for me or not roomy enough and this hits both marks. I’m no engineer but perhaps a small cross bar that connects the 2 poles at the wide head end would make it a true freestanding tent. Keep innovating Samaya!

Luxurious

Tested in heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail for a full night and everything stayed completely dry. Sleeping pads and sleeping bags were never wet. The following day brought strong, cold winds at around 9,200 ft, and we were surprisingly warm inside. The post-stake tensioning system allows you to really fine-tune and maximize the tension of the guy lines. We then spent two nights in good weather with no condensation at all and very good ventilation. Space was sufficient for a father and son (5'11", approx. 165 lb and 190 lb). Setup and takedown are incredibly fast, even between rain showers. The packed size and the waterproof storage bag are honestly impressive. Excellent design and very well thought out overall.

Tested on the Road: Samaya Instant 3 in Morocco

We used the Samaya Instant 3 for a full month while bike touring across Morocco, riding through very different environments and dealing with strong contrasts in temperature. Days were often extremely hot, while nights—especially at altitude—could be surprisingly cold. Throughout the trip, the tent proved to be a dependable shelter, handling these shifts without any issues. In hot conditions, ventilation was efficient enough to keep the interior comfortable, and in colder nights the structure felt protective and well insulated. Wind, dry desert air, and colder mountain evenings never compromised the tent’s stability or overall comfort. Even after repeated setups and pack-downs, it continued to perform consistently. One of the biggest advantages during a bike journey was how quick and intuitive the setup is. After long days on the road, being able to pitch camp fast is invaluable. The freestanding design worked well on all kinds of terrain, from rocky ground to compact sand. After a month of daily use in demanding conditions, the Samaya Instant 3 earned our full trust as a reliable tent for long, self-supported adventures.
