goggles and strap does not fit a smith XL helmet. even with the strap fully extended, its way too tight on your face. You need help from another person pulling it out and down/back up. i bought smith helmet and goggles because i heard they fit best together and i assumed the same brand bought new within the same year would work best and their products would work together. that is not true. there is also a reddit thread with other people who have the same issue with L and XL helmets and different smith goggles other than squad. the smith strap is not long enough for their own XL helmet.
I've taken this out on a bluebird day and a heavy storm powder day so far. The platinum mirror finish performed great in the sun. It looked surprisingly close to the image on the site, which inspires confidence in choosing tint. The spare amber lens worked better than expected in a storm. My SportRX inserts fogged up heavily while the lens did not. I trust the anti-fog claims now. Ventilation through the bridge and nose worked well, but not amazing. Likely a helmet incompatibility. Switching lenses was slightly difficult, but doable. I would worry about clip durability if switching lenses frequently. The strap held well even without a retaining clip and during soaked conditions. Straps were easy to adjust and didn't bind up.
Nice goggles; I like the exchangeable lenses in that if it gets scratched I can replace that part at a lower cost. Chromapop helps, but is not great in flat light -- sadly, there really isn't a "one fits all" in that regard. My last pair were also Smiths and these have better (but not perfect) resistance to fogging, which was a nice upgrade.
If buying without the intent of switching lenses I guess sure but still better options for single lense use. this is by far one of the most angering things you will go through in your life trying to switch the lenses. Will take roughly ~20 minutes and make you consider if your an idiot or if smith didn’t care when designing these.
goggle strap does not fit an xl smith helmet at all. its not integrated like the website says. there are reddit threads about people trying to stretch the band out but it's not working. bad quality, you'd think for the price they would add an extra inch or two to the strap.
Good this yesterday and used them for a couple hours before they got so fogged up I couldn’t even use them anymore I don’t see a difference between these and the typical cheaper goggles. In my opinion waste of money honestly
I haven't purchased new snow goggles in about 12 or 13 years. My last pair was a fairly early version of the I/O, and while they were good googles, these blow them out of the water. My home mountain generally has flat light ALL THE TIME, so I purchased these because they came with a bonus yellow lens. I figured I would be using those nearly all of the time. Before I did that, I figured I would give the Everyday Red Mirror lenses a try on a cloudy/low-light afternoon. Even in the shadiest parts of the trail (literally and figuratively, it's been a cold/low snow season so there is plenty of bulletproof ice), I couldn't believe the contrast that these googles provided. Consider me sold on the ChromaPop lens technology, it is that good. And for all of the people wearing an Atomic Helmet - these match up perfectly. No gaper gap to speak of, even though I'm not running a Smith helmet. While the higher end Smith goggles also seem phenomenal, if your budget doesn't go that high then don't hesitate on the Squads, they are incredible.
They are super comfortable. The fit is nice and the Photocromic lens is insane. You can see well during the night and the lens get darker fast when the sun is there.
Thought this model came with a low light and bright light lenses but its one lens and looks like its for cloudy days… not what i wanted.
Super cool goggles only downside is changing lenses can be a little tricky besides that they look sick and feel great.
