They have enough stretch that steep, rooty climbs don’t feel restricted, and the softshell fabric breathes well but still blocks wind when conditions shift. The DWR has handled wet brush and light drizzle without soaking through, which is perfect for fall in the PNW. Fit is streamlined but comfortable, and the fabric feels durable enough for regular use without being bulky. Mammut gave me this free product to try, and my honest review is that I would recommend these to anyone who hikes or climbs. They are durable and lightweight, yet highly water resistant. I wouldn’t recommend them for winter, but they are solid 3-season pants. They are extremely functional, with zip pockets and elastic cuffs. There is a Velcro cinch at the waist that allows many differently-sized people to wear the same pants. Not to mention that they are a beautiful color!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a climbing instructor, I am often asked for gear recommendations and Mammut is one of my go-to brands for safety specs and durability. I own multiple jackets and tops from Mammut that I used regularly outdoors; this is the first time trying their pants. I took them out on a couple trips to the Gunks to test them on the rock scrambles and multipitch climbing. The first thing I noticed was how snug they are at the waist and hips (I had to size up from the size chart) - there are Velcro tabs to adjust the fit if there is room at the waist. Secondly, the waist sits slightly lower than my navel. I prefer higher waistbands so that my harness is not rubbing directly on my skin. To mitigate this, I added longer layers on top to tuck into my harness. I am 5'5" and the length is perfect. The material is on the thinner side, but sufficed for temps in the high 40s as long as there is no gusty wind. I can see them being perfect for warmer weather, esp the breathability and quickdry fabric. Despite the thinner material, the pants proved to be durable from all my scraping my legs on the rock on an offwidth. They were also pretty comfortable after the fabric loosened, with a bit of stretch to accommodate high feet. There are zippered pockets, though the pants were too snug for me to make use of them. If you have a shorter waist, they will probably work perfectly for you. Just make sure you size up from the size chart. I will continue to use these pants for hiking, but they are not my favorite for climbing with a harness.

I tried and tested Mammut’s Runbold Guide SO Pants, and they’ve really impressed me. They’re incredibly lightweight and pack down to almost nothing, making them perfect for travel or outdoor adventures. The material is light, breathable, and flexible—I’ve climbed, crouched, and moved all around in them, and they passed every test. While the pants aren’t fully waterproof, they do repel water surprisingly well. I walked around in the rain for a while before any moisture started to sink in, and they also dry quickly afterward. Two of my favorite features are the multiple deep pockets with zippers (a game changer!) and the velcro-adjustable waist straps, which make getting the perfect fit super easy. Overall, these pants are thoughtfully designed for outdoor activities but work just as well for everyday city life.

Wore these on 90* days and stayed very comfortable. Good stretch. Sized up one size because they had it, and the Velcro sides helped to sinch it down. Liked having a little more space for movement too. The knees are a little tougher for kneeling in the dirt and stones, and shedded water in a sudden downpour. Wore for 3 days on a backpacking trip and could have gotten a few more days out of them. Loved them!
