The Perfect Hiking Shoe
Perfect for hiking. I originally bought these shoes for the style and I didn’t fully understand how excellent they would be for hiking. They work on my treadmill, but I’d choose another shoe if you want padding. HOWEVER, if you actually plan to go hiking, BUY THESE NOW. I just spent the day hiking Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii. It was gorgeous, but the rocks were muddy, it was slippery in parts, there were plenty of inclines and declines, AND it was raining. These shoes handled this type of terrain like a champ. They grip the surfaces but remain lightweight. The rain didn’t bother me at all. The hike was super comfortable in these shoes. I highly recommend these for hiking. A+++ shoe.
Comfortable, Functional, Stylish
Overall great shoe. Very comfortable. Didn't need to break in, but even more comfortable now that I'm a couple weeks into wearing. True to size: 8 is usually tight and 9 is too loose, so shout out to Merrell for their half size option, 8.5 was right on point, with just enough wiggle room for my toes to feel comfortable. I like the shape of the shoe because there's no pinching on the toes. Not waterproof, but the way the sole wraps the toe is nice for keeping feet dry from wet grass and such. Good grips on sole. soles squeak on hard floors when they're wet, but not usually. I wear these shoes outdoors, on trails, and also to work in a professional role, they're versatile and blend well with all of my outfits. All in all great shoe, glad I purchased. I recommend.
Thanks!
Great for Zion!
My Merrell's took me on an amazing adventure through Zion National Park. They took me up Angel's Landing and a few other hikes in complete comfort. I have flat feet and have been unsuccessful in finding comfortable hiking shoes until the Trail Glove 7. They were great for hiking, canyoneering, and repelling. They were all grip and no slip. I will continue with the Vapor Glove 6 for my daily wear, but definitely love the Trail Glove 7 for my adventures. Thanks Merrell!
Thank you!
I wanted to love…
At first wear, loved them! Very grippy sole, lots of room for my toes to splay out - everything I was looking for. HOWEVER, after the second wear the shoes were already coming apart. The rubberish piece that goes around the front of the shoe is already peeling off the mesh where my foot bends and now dirt is getting stuck in there. Very disappointed with the durability.
Great Shoe, Durability Unknown
My daughter is on her third pair of Glove 7s in four months. This is a solid shoe choice with excellent construction, flexibility, comfort and grip. The unknown is durability for everyday use, as my child is a competitive amateur log roller and this is her shoe of choice for training and competition. In fact, many of the World Class athletes in this unique and growing sport choose Merrell Gloves. The shoe serves its purpose well, though the tread wears out fast in high contact areas; in our case, the tread under the big toe on each foot has worn smooth after only weeks of wear.
The Trail Glove 7 is a Leader Among Trail Runners
I have mostly loved the entire Trail Runner series. (Minus the 6, what were you thinking?! Don't get me started!) The 7 is no exception! I love the fit and feel of this style, and feel like it's one of the best soles they have had on a Trail Glove. It has a feel of a mix between the 4 & 5! After having a gorgeous green pair of these, I couldn't decide on a new/second color. Though I hate to admit it, the Celery are right up my alley! It was brighter than other items with the celery color (more highlighter yellow than the subdued, pale yellow-green) that I've seen from Merrell, but that's what made me love it more! The opposing color is between a Merrell Burlwood and a Merrell Antelope. It's a great contrast! If you love the Trail Glove series, then these will be no exception!
Comfy/not durable
I absolutely love these for fit and comfort. They’re even better than some of the older versions of Merrell’s barefoot shoes. The problem is with the newer Vibram sole treads After wearing them for 2-3 days a week, averaging about 6 miles a day, over three weeks, the treads are tearing away from the flat portion of the sole. This is walking on concrete or carpeting at work, not scrambling up razor sharp granite skree or anything. With Vibram, I’ve come to expect a certain amount of durability so I’m pretty disappointed that these will likely only last the summer and be unwearable by fall. If it weren’t for being so comfortable, I would have returned them right away.

No longer a barefoot running shoe
I've been wearing Merrell's barefoot shoes since 2011. They've gradually been moving their styles further away from "barefoot" and back to a traditional running shoe with lots of cushion and arch support. The changes from the trail glove 6 to trail glove 7 have been the most noticeable to me. Much more cushion, much more arch support, much wider heel base (nearly 1/2"). Significantly altered my running form on my first run with them this week. Stopped the run short to avoid injury. Gave them a second chance a few days later with the same result. I will unfortunately be returning these. Hoping Merrell will come out with a new true barefoot running shoe again.
Soles wear out very quickly
I purchased these shoes on Sep 3, and received them on Sep 5. So, I started wearing them for my daily walks on or about Sep 6th. It's October 22nd now, and almost all the tread on the ball of the right shoe is completely worn away. I walk on trails and asphalt. I've used these shoes only for walking for exercise, not for running, not for errands. I've put fewer than 180 miles on them. They just don't last long. Otherwise they're fine, if you don't want to use them for long.

Still missing the Trail Glove 5 (and older)
Trail Gloves allowed me to hike without knee pain, but the 6 was such a departure from the 5 that I couldn’t wear them. The wide toe box is back in the 7’s (thank you Merrell) but there is so much support built up in the arch area and the heel is so stiff that it still no longer functions like a barefoot shoe and it’s too narrow in the mid foot besides. My feet can’t move naturally so my foot-knee-hip alignment is off and it’s no good for my knees. I have three pairs of Trail Glove 5’s with literally hundreds of miles in them that I alternate wearing; they are wearing thin, with holes on the sides. Merrell, please please please offer the Trail Glove 5 again, no new R&D required! There is no barefoot shoe I have not tried. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars and to no avail. 🙏
