My husband bought this jacket for me when my Shot 7 Down parka got too small. I loved the Shot 7 - and I love this jacket even more! I have been walking in 0 degree wind chills in Michigan and have stayed warm with just a base layer on underneath - and I get cold easily! I love how long it is, and I love all the extra pockets! This jacket does run large, but it's nice for layering and is comfortable in the shoulders while driving since it's so spacious. I have used the hood too and it is just the right size over a hat - and works well to keep out wind. I also love that this is gortex so you stay dry and warm. Thanks Stio!
This is hands down the best winter coat I’ve owned. I live in Salt Lake City where we are having a warmish winter but this has kept me warm on the rare occasions that we’ve dipped into the teens. I’ve worn it when it’s in the 40’s and haven’t been too hot. I absolutely love the hand warmer pockets, every coat needs these. The hood is great, just the right size and doesn’t get in the way. The soft fabric at the chin is a great addition. I thought I would miss closure snaps along the zipper but haven’t at all. The body is definitely a bit large but I don’t mind. This is my first foray into the $500+ category of winter coats and you get what you pay for with this one. Big fan!
I got this coat to replace my Shot 7 parks that I returned for a faulty zipper. Stio did not make the shot 7 in a parka this year, so the Colter was the only viable option. I have two kids in competitive ski programs, one racer and one big mountain. This coat was purchased specifically for standing around all day st ski events. What I like: Colter is longer and roomier than the Shot 7 Parka, and has better pocket configurations. Lots of room to layer. What could be better: The Shot 7 Parka was definitely warmer and had better color options. The colter colors are pretty neutral aka boring. I also preferred the shell material of the Shot 7. This coat seems like it would get water logged in heavy snow or rain/snow mix.
I really wanted to love this coat. The navy is beautiful and a perfect non-black neutral. The length is great and I’ll assume it is warm. I retuned it. The fit is just off. I sized down to an x-small based on reviews and it fit well everywhere except the shoulders. The shoulders were uncomfortably tight and the primary reason for the return. I could have tried the small, but didn’t want the coat any bigger anywhere else. I’m bummed. It also was surprisingly noisy. I’m guessing it’s the “wind stopper” exterior, but it was kind of annoying and all I did was try it on.
Great coat! I am 5'8" and the length is great. It hits right below my knees. What makes this stand out is that fact that is has the addition of Windstopper outer fabric to keep the polar winds from blowing through the down baffles. It's warm and roomy to layer underneath. Yes, the fit through body is big, I can see why many people are sizing down. I opted NOT to size down and went with my normal size. I think if I sized down, it may start to feel too tight underneath the armpits if I wear a bulky layer underneath. The handwarmer pockets are great :)
I cannot say enough wonderful, adoring things about this coat. It has made all of my winter dreams come true. Every important detail has been carried out from zip openings in the armpits to allow ventilation to lined pockets, to the right number of pockets (upper, lower, interior), to the quality of the down and warmth of the coat, to the zippers (available to open each way), to the color - I purchased it in aubergine 3 years ago and am surprised that that color is no longer available. It is truly a joy to wear and something that keeps me warm even on the coldest days. I look forward to getting into it each day! It makes cold winters in NJ so much more bearable. Don't waste any more time looking for the perfect winter parka - this is it!
As many have said it runs large. I’m between a medium and large and the medium fits well with room to spare. It’s warm and cozy like putting on a blanket. What sold me on this coat was the put zips! No one adds those to this type of jacket. It makes it so much more versatile. I have worn it for 4 ish mile dogs walks in windy cold temps and the pit zips are great to dump some heat when needed. Definitely not a fitted super flattering coat but very functional for cold, wet and windy weather!
This Jacket keeps me warm with a medium weight thermal and light vest on in 21 degree Maine cold. In 32-40 degree weather I wear a lighter jacket or no layering. My gripes: I’ve had the jacket for about three weeks and the zipper is awful when unzipping. Often times I have to step in/ot of the jacket. Also, down filling is already seeping out at the seems in the chest area. I find that disappointing after only such a short time.
This was my 4th winter coat purchased and only one that did not engulf me while also being able to actually sit down comfortably in it. It is large enough to wear layers underneath if needed. Purchased at end of season so I can’t speak to its warmth factor on its own. Coat does make rustling sound. It seemed like the best compromise. Happy to have air zip vents. I appreciate this thoughtful addition.
I purchased this parka for my mid-80’s mother who lives in blustery and cold Minnesota for her to wear while walking her dog and run errands in the winter. She loves it, and I love that she has a well fitting, warm, functional jacket. The color looks great on her and she loves it.
