I used this bag as cabin baggage on a plane and the size is perfect. I like that I can go through the zipper on the top to have a 2nd access to my belongings. I like the basket system or the straps which take the bag off our back and which is less hot when worn for a long time. Several pockets at the waist including a waterproof pocket. Side pockets for water bottles accessible when carried on our back. I also like the rain cover integrated under the bag. Ideal for traveling by plane and traveling without a suitcase. However, I have not tried it on a hike. For this purpose, I don't think the zipper concept would be ideal and I would like more compartments instead of just one.
This is the worst backpack I have ever owned. The frame and shoulder straps are incredibly stiff, and I have a bruise on my collarbone for wearing it for just a couple hours. The phone pocket is very inconvenient. The chest strap doesn't go low enough. The frame OSFA option is an ineffective idea because my spine is only 16" and the backpack frame sticks out several inches above my neck which makes it hard to look up. I would not recommend this to anyone for any activity.
I bought this pack because i wanted a roll top and easy access to the items in the bottom. The roll top makes it easy to shrink/expand the pack according to what I have. Pack carries weight very well. I have 2 complaints. 1. The women's version does not have mesh shoulder pouches. I really wanted that. 2. Shock cords would have done a much better job at holding poles as compared to the velcro. Great pack otherwise.
I love my new bag! It's really confortable and spacious. I love how versatile it is. The only downside is there's only three different compartiments, the main one, a smaller one on top and the removable pouch. For day to day use, it's not really an issue, but for weekend trips or hikes, some compression bags are going to be a must. I would still recommend it to anyone, it's a great backpack!
I finally retired my old 2004 Eddie Bauer day pack and upgraded to this Mammut Ducan Spine (Ladies model). Compared to my old pack and carrying the same gear, it feels light as a feather. With the way the frame flexes, it rides very well and is very comfortable after a long day of hiking. Has just the right features I was looking for in a day pack and materials are of very high quality.
I love it! Comfortably supports weight. Has a pouch on the hip belt for phone so I can acess it without taking pack off, hydration bladder compatible. I like the way it cinches up to hold gear tight. Very comfortable to wear.
