This appeared to be a very well made ultralight wind shirt sort of garment. However, I returned it because the sleeves were so long it would never fit me. I considered taking it to a local tailor to get it altered, but the way the sleeves are put together with two different fabric types and the capilene extending part way up the sleeve, not to mention, no hem at the end of the sleeves, this didn't seem like a practical option. I like Patagonia, even though it is pricey, but I just couldn't see how this was ever going to work for me. My advice to Patagonia would be to fix the sleeves and add pockets (since it could be worn as an ultralight outer layer) and no one could refuse this garment.
This is a great ultralight insulating layer. It's basically comparable to a thin, lightweight fleece pullover but with a soft-shell outer layer, so it blocks more wind while still being very breathable. Size large fits my muscular, athletic 6'1" frame well. I'm not sure why the other reviewers mentioned long sleeves. The sleeves fit me just right. I would make two changes. 1, I would make the chest pocket just big enough to fit a cell phone or sunglasses, etc.. As it is, it's way too big for that, so. phone would lie sideways and be kind of uncomfortable. I realize they made it that size to stuff the whole thing into the pocket, but I'd rather have a smaller pocket. 2, it's a little hard to pull the hem over your head when taking it off, but when it's on the fit is really good, so I wouldn't want it any baggier. These are both minor points and don't stop me from giving this thing 5 stars. Great product!
Arms would fit an orangutan yet chest is tight, making it hard to take on and off. I’m pretty much a dead on medium but this thing didn’t fit at all.
On one hand, this is a great lightweight, purpose-built shell. I was looking for something to wear on runs and other outdoor activities when it's cool but not cold enough for a thicker jacket. This shell does a great job of providing light insulation and breathability. I would say it is in between the Houdini Jacket and an R1 fleece in terms of warmth and wind-resistance. The 2-way zipper, that at first I thought was gimmicky, is actually useful for providing adjustable ventilation. The biggest downfall is that getting this thing on and off is like trying to get out of a straight-jacket, especially after working up a sweat - the material tends to stick to you. There are stretch panels by the lower sleeves, but the rest of the material has very little stretch and the waist is extremely tight. It would be helpful to have a side zip or adjustable cord that would loosen/ open the waist up. As others have mentioned, the sleeves are also longer than they need to be, but I didn't find them cumbersome. Although hand pockets would have been nice, I get that this is a minimalist piece and not meant to replace a "proper" shell, but unless you plan on not taking this off (which defeats the purpose of layering), you might look elsewhere.
