Loving our new Coleman, camping out of it this weekend was a blast, be sure you’re aware of the pre attached poles and ensure you’re careful with them to prevent ripping on the tarp bottom floor, we had a 4man Coleman very similar in design and love the upgrade!
I can see the idea of a dark tent being appealing when you arrive to your camp spot late and want to sleep in (definitely happened to me multiple times) but I do enjoy waking up with the sun and getting an early start so I probably should have thought about that more when buying. The reason for the bad review is that I would have liked it if it had windows, but if the rainfly is on, your commited to darkness inside. I live in CO where it's not too windy but I tried it out in Nebraska where it's very windy and it basically worked like a sail. So I wouldn't recommend where windy.
Used the tent one time. The poles were not that tightly fitting and fell apart very easily while trying to put the tent up, which was annoying, but with a second person it was manageable. The second time my wife went to use it, BOTH sets of poles, the string inside the poles had broken and both sets of poles, BOTH, were useless. Normally I might exchange the thing for another one, but this seems bad enough on two different parts that I think I will just return the thing and find something else. It's a shame because REI doesn't have a lot of tents large enough to accommodate our cots.
Fabulous for families! Plenty of room for hanging out in the vestibule. Easy set up even for one person alone. Impressive black for over two years now.
The tent leaks at the bottom of the screen room where the three zippers come together. This is a design flaw. There should be another stake point there so it doesn’t cave in on itself. Also the tie down points on the rain fly do not allow for any separation between the tent and rain fly to allow for airflow, so there’s NO airflow when it’s raining.
it's kind of all or nothing with this tent. either you have no cover and can see the entire sky and all your surroundings with amazing ventilation or you are in an actual black whole and will sleep amazing with ventilation being good. highly recommend a light bulb if you use the rain fly! setup was EASY and i'm a beginner.
I love the dark room I always put tarp over top so sun can’t cook you but have been in it in a crazy storm and stayed dry! Easy set up take down rolls up fits easily in bag just favorite all time tent
