I have these exact shorts in blue. I ordered a small and the waist is 2" narrower than the pair I own with no give in the fabric, I can't even pull them on. I would guess I would have to order a size large to fit these shorts. Love the color but sadly will be returning them.
If there were fewer features, these shorts might be advertised as "G-string shorts suitable for hiking." Based on the reviews of "too small," I purchased an XXL, which turned out to be too large. The shorts are held up by a waistband cord. There is no zipper; neither are there belt loops. As the fabric is extremely lightweight, I think the shorts should be advertised for running, rather than hiking. They are NOT durable, protective hiking shorts. I should have returned them for a smaller size or a different product, but I have already used them once. A few weeks later, I used more REI Reward Points to purchase the Astro Shorts in XL, waist 36-38", which is my correct size. I'm using the shorts as running shorts. For this purpose, they are great! Lightweight, quick wash and dry, with adequate pockets. What you use these shorts for will influence your rating. The fabric is minimally stretchy, so the customer needs to pick the correct waist measurement.
I usually wear a size 0 and ordered an extra small, but these were far too narrow, and the fabric has no stretch—I couldn’t even pull them up past my thighs. I really love the color, material, and overall design, but unfortunately, I’ll have to return them.
Shockingly small on the waistband to get over my hips, but once they were up the fit was incredible. If only these were designed with one of those little invisible side zippers or a tiny bit of stretch in the waistband. I'm 5'4", 112 pounds with 35" hips + 28" waist. I usually wear a 0, XS, or XXS, depending on the brand.
Generally well-fitting but the pockets creep out below the hemline when seated.. an irritant but def not so much that I don’t wear them - they are otherwise comfy!
Unfortunately, these run at least two sizes too small and don't appear to factor in the shape of a woman's body. I typically wear a 00P, 24P, or XXS. I ordered an XS and cannot even pull them over my hips. The top of the waist band has zero give or stretch, but there is no zipper or other closure. My hips are obviously wider than my waist, so I can't pull them on.
I own a ton of OR. Pants, tights, jackets, shorts, shirts, …. Every item is a size small. These shorts in small were so small I couldn’t get them past my knees. I’m a very fit 5’2” 118lbs.
I love these shorts, quick dry and light weight Great for hot weather
