Solid kit. If you're looking for something more like what you're used to using at home - this is it. The heavier base spreads out the hot spots you'd get from lighter weight cookware. The removable handle is great for the fry pan and smaller sauce pan, but a bit cumbersome for the larger 5QT pot, plus there is only one. If you are cooking two things at once, it can be a bit of a pain to swap the handle back and forth. I'd recommend picking up a second handle and finding silicone grips that fit for each side of that larger pot, so you can manage things better.
We picked this set up a week ago when our trusty non-stick set from Sea to Summit started to fail us. I was tired of having to replace non-stick sets every 1-2 years, and wanted to limit my exposure to the chemicals in those pots and pans. We use these items multiple times a day in our truck camper, and they're FANTASTIC! I wanted something that would nest, be big enough to make food for more than one person, and that has a straining feature in the lid. This set meets all of those criteria, and feels high-quality. I appreciate the silicon grips on the pot handles. I hope they will last us for many, many years to come.
Never review anything, and this cookset inspired the review. Worth every penny of the cost if you can swing it, especially for those whole really like to cook in camp. Just used it on a 15 night car camping trip across US, at least twice a day. We cooked all kinds of things with this set. It was awesome in every respect. Nests nicely and is really compact for the volume of the pots. Removable handle is great. The carbon steel fry pan is fantastic. Follow the instructions for it if you are not used to carbon steel and it will last forever. The set is a throwback in some ways, with the weight and quality making you wish more things could be like that. Like they used to be. Great example of you get what you pay for. Happy trails!
It is great set! Although some people might not like it depends on what they need. First, this thing is heavy, it is not for lightweight carry around in backpack. Specially the big pot, if there’s food in the pot(probably stews) it will be hard to carry with the handle that provides. (It does have side handles on both side, so its not that big of deal) If you are looking for backpacking, this is not it. Otherwise this can be the set for your need.
We bought this cook set for our teardrop trailer where space is limited. The nesting design of the pots and pans, plus the removable handle is perfect. I thought parts of the handle would be made out of plastic, but to my surprise it is entirely metal. I think the entire set is truly well built. The pots have a thick bottom and sturdy sidewalls, helping with heat distribution and retention. The straining lids are also a really nice touch, it is pretty convenient to not have to carry around an extra strainer. But let me tell you about this pan. I'm a huge fan of cast iron cooking and I also really like carbon steel cookware, my experience being with woks specifically. This pan shot straight to my heart. If you're familiar with how to use carbon steel, it is an absolute breeze. Nothing sticks to it. Nothing. Camp cleanup has never been easier. The pan is so smooth that a spatula and a paper towel are all that is needed to fully clean it. I'm about to replace all the skillets in my house with carbon steel ones, literally cannot recommend it enough. The carrying back and pot mat are also really nice touches. Oxo designs really great products and I'm so happy that have gotten into the camp world!
This is a great cool set. We switched from aluminum because we have an induction cooktop. This new set is so much nicer than our old set. It’s really heavy duty and obviously made to last. The carbon steel pan is the real winner tho. It’s as good as any non-stick we’ve ever used and it’s so much lighter than the cast iron it’s replacing. The pot coaster is also a nice addition. We don’t use the bag because it doesn’t fit in our setup but would be nice to have if it works for you. It’s a great set and I highly recommend it.
This was a splurge, an upgrade to cheap thrift store aluminum pans. Worth every penny. Just came back from a few days car camping (this set is heavy and def not for back packing) where I created meals of varying complexity. The set is heavy, with solid thick bottoms, which allowed me to cook rice in sauces and other meals that need simmering or lower heat for a time without scorching. The lids fit well so overall cooking time was not all that much slower and the final product was at least as good as what I could have produced at home. Clean up super easy, esp if you are used to cooking with stainless steel, looked like new after every meal. Everything fits nice and snug in the carrying case. Like other reviews have mentioned, it would have been more convenient to have 2 handles for situations where I was using both burners, but switching was easy and the pots also have enough lip on their own that you could use them with heat protection like mitts. This set has really opened up the meal possibilities at camp--can't wait to use it on our next trip and I might not, as the set is higher quality than my at home cookware, tbh.
I have looked long and hard for decent stuff to cook with while camping. I am a good cook but as is true for most people, I am really only as good as my tools. I have looked for stuff to cook with while car camping and resigned myself to cast iron. I used to have aluminum cook pots but you can't look away for even a second or they burn like crazy. I finally found something that is almost as good as my gear at home but light and compact and it stacks!! The steel pan is the best I have ever used and the cook pots are just the right size and have a thick bottom that warms up slowly, and stays warm longer. Perfect!
So far I love cooking with these pots and the carbon steel pan ! Dont freak out when your pan changes colors a little, it even warns you in the little booklet that comes with it which i appreciated, because i am to return things quickly if i suspect they are cheap lol. I have been moving away from tephlon/ nonstick cookware and this is a fantastic alternative ! A plus that the handle comes off and you can use it for all 3, makes storing it easy and if you want to pack it up for camping ! Great set .
Saw this set inside our REI and immediately noticed the weight. We purchased this set and the cookware all has a thick bottom, perfect for high heat cooking. It’s clear this set will last a long time with how durable they are. We used them for a few cooks already and have really enjoyed the set. The carbon steel pan is easy to clean without too much fuss. My only complaint is that the set come with one handle (which has its own storage pocket inside the bag it comes with). All in all very pleased.
