I just bought 5 pairs of Kari Traa base layer pants to replace old ones from Smartwool that have beaten up. I was concerned about the sizing based on the reviews, but I had no issues whatsoever. I ordered all larges, all 100% merino styles, and all fit great. The weight of the merino in each item makes the fit slightly different across styles, but I didn't experience the variation that other reviews indicated. These are great quality, they feel super, I'm warm -- no issues. This out-of-shape, 5' 8" mom ordered her regular pants size and is a happy camper. Go for it!
I usually love everything in this brand, but I was really disappointed in these thermals. Firstly, this new wide very tight waist band is unnecessary and very uncomfortable. I wanted to return them. However, one chilly morning I had no choice but to wear this pair. I feel sad just looking at them knowing the discomfort I will feel in the waist and hips. They are fairly warm. Still, I wish designers would go back to the original smaller more efficient waist band. I may have to start knitting my own long underwear if this style persists!
Wore these under pants loved them. I will never not wear them when traveling again. Do not hold smells great as a base layer under items. Wore them everyday for 4 days.
Lightweight but warm. Not as itchy as some wool items.
Very comfortable and lightweight so they fit well under my jeans and kept me warm in below zero windchill
