I've had this daypack for a few months now and I love it. The 22 L is the perfect size for shorter adventures - I can fit my trekking poles, a small cook system, snacks, emergency supplies, water, and a spare layer in it comfortably, plus everything I need to carry for my dog. I haven't had any back pain with it but it's possible I haven't used it enough. It's hard for me to find packs that fit me well (for reference, 32" bust, 23" waist, size S bag) but this fits well, especially when it's loaded up. I couldn't find sizing on any sites, so I'm including the sizing tag that came with it.
I bought this pack so I could run the Camino and it was fantastic! The running/regular pack was all I needed and there was plenty of room in the straps for all of my snacks. I had the lightest and best pack on the Camino!
I wanted something that carried all the essentials for longer days out and this was exactly the pack for it. Love the colour too!
I’ve used this pack on multiple long trail runs, from 15-27 miles in the mountains. I’ve had all my emergency gear, calories for a 10 hour day, 4L of water, extra layer, filter, poles, etc, and it still felt comfortable on my shoulders. In lifting the pack fully loaded like this I thought no way will this be comfortable, but it was just fine all day, and shoulders were not bothering me the next day. It also still had some room even carrying all that gear. I’d love to buy the 15 or 8L version, but I wish they had the stretchy pocket on the back like this one, so nice to just grab a layer out of there without opening the whole pack. Plenty of good storage in the front too, and in the side pockets.
I bought this for long, self-supported adventure days that are primarily running, with hiking the hills. The pack is great - super lightweight, enough pockets in the front for snacks, love the pole holders for my Z poles. But it's way too big. I bought the women's small and I can't get it small enough to fit me properly. Even fully loaded, I have to cinch the chest straps to capacity - and I still get bounce. When I start polishing off my 2L reservoir, the pack is all over the place. I did buy the women's small, which looked like the smallest size available. Hoping to find some after-market options to cinch it tighter (ideas anyone?) For sizing reference, I'm 5'5", 118 pounds, 26" waist and a 32D.
Used for a couple of days out hiking mixed with trail running for 20+ miles now so have a good feel for the pack. Overall really enjoying the packs functionality. Carried gear plus 3L of water well (~9lbs). All easy access pockets on the vest work well, super convenient. Shoulder straps are thin but have been totally comfortable. Haven’t quite figured out the quiver hiking pole storage system, when used there is a lot more excursion of the pack when running especially downhill so probably won’t use that feature, may even take off those straps to save weight.
I’m disappointed with this pack. I have a distance 15 that I was happy with. I purchased this one for a longer fastpack trip. This one doesn’t fit well, it’s too large and I purchased the small and it’s not adjustable. The material in the pocket is fraying. I reached out to the warranty department and they told me to just cut off the frayed material and they said there was nothing they can do for me regarding the fit. I won’t be purchasing anymore equipment from Black Diamond going forward. Disappointed they were not willing to fix the problems.
A really great pack. I've just come back from using it for a 14 day bike packing trip where I needed a lightweight frameless pack. The colour is great and the pack is really handy. Pay attention to the sizing as the pack does run small. I got a large (5ft6 140lbs, size 6 top), but normally I am medium in black diamond. A medium would have been too small as the straps across the chest are quite small. This will be my go to hiking pack now :)
I purchased the men's version of this pack for my husband and immediately was immensely jealous. I have owned distance packs in the past, but none came with the bottles in the front, a place for poles, ice axes and many accessible pockets to carry my gear. I bought mine 2 days after my husbands arrived. I wore this on my adventure to climb Gannett Peak and loved it. Looking forward to taking it to many more adventures around the globe.
Purchased primarily for long distance day hikes but have also used for run commuting. Love it for both! The pack handles weight extremely well especially considering it's frameless and all of the features are really well thought out. It's also extremely comfortable and bouncing/jostling during running isn't too bad, even for my run commuting with a laptop and empty tupperwares in the pack. Plenty of space to stash soft water bottles, snacks, emergency layers, etc. I'm average height (5'6") and thin-ish (130 lb, size 4 top) and the size medium womens pack fits perfect and holds a real raincoat and a puffy jacket in addition to my 10 essentials and other needs on the hikes with space to spare so I'm confident I can make this a three season pack most of the time. Like another reviewer said pay attention to the sizing chart because normally I would've ordered a small.
