A keeper.
I love it and wear it or one of my other four colors daily.
great color, but uncomfortable.
I love the light purple color that I bought. I have been happy with my other hats from Sunday Afternoons. Unfortunately, It shows my sweat. Also the inner seam along my forehead presses into my forehead and leaves an indentation. I have tried adjusting the tightness, but then it is too loose to stay on my head.
I bought this cap along with a Sprinter Cap to wear while walking on the beach in breezy conditions. While the Sprinter Cap is a little too stretchy, this hat seems to work nicely, is very well made, and it will stay on my head......a really big plus! My only suggestion is that SA might find a better adjustable closure than the velcro. It doesn't work well if you have to tighten it down, because you run out of loops for the hooks. Also, if I put my ponytail through the opening, the loops also catch hair, making removal very uncomfortable. All of my other Sunday Afternoons hats have had better functioning adjustors.
I recently had treatments for skin cancer. The doctor told me to wear a hat to protect the top of my head and face. I have always worn a baseball type cap, but have never been especially fond of any of them. I just received the Eclipse cap and have only had time to try it on and have my wife and I to access the appearance and functionality. I have never written a review for anything, but felt forced to share my opinion of this hat. It is outstanding in appearance and construction and comfort. I not only will recommend the hat, but will probably buy a spare and recommend that my wife buy a hat from this company.
The Eclipse I bought 3 years ago had a great design, it set great on the head, and flaps stayed in place tightly. The newer Eclipse version - not sure when and how exactly it changed - does not sit right for me.... Maybe there is too much fabric or slight design shift... flaps don't stay tight as in old version, and has has wrinkles due to extra fabric. In both versions the adjustable Velcro strap is not good. It loses grip because the "hairy" side of the velcro becomes fluffy and completely loses grip with the "hooks" side after several months. It is annoying, since this is not a cheap hat. Overall not too happy.
Persistence pays off. I have been keeping a look out for a great cap for years and the Eclipse is it. Every cap I've tried before is wrong in some way or another. This one is perfect. It opens wide enough to fit my large head. It ventilates very well. The white color reflects the midday heat. The neat creased bill lets me take it off and put it in a pocket when walking in the forest shade. The bill curve doesn't interfere with my sunglasses nor does it poke into my temples like many hats do. I will really put it to the test kayaking this weekend. If it passes it will be time to buy a few more.
Problem some what fixed
As I stated in a previous comment the is some material sticking out behind the brim making the hat uncomfortable. I made the hat to be a bigger size Except when there is a breeze it works ok
Mermaid aerobics
This is the second hat in this style that I have purchased. The first one I’ve worn for hiking, water aerobics, walking and general use. The fit is adjustable and air vents help in hot tropical weather. The material is lightweight and easy to clean plus the cap bill is foldable which is great for travel. I have received many compliments also. I have these hats in white and blue. Bought a second one as a backup while traveling. Highly recommend this hat, a favorite! Ian also happy with the quality and service from Sunday Afternoons brand.
I found this quite by accident while I was perusing some shops on Catalina Island. I'm always looking for sun visors that are comfortable to wear casually as well as when I'm out playing tennis or golf. The Eclipse Cap was on the rack with some other sun hats and I picked up a white one. Love the flaps! I love the comfort and lightweight feel! I really love the foldable brim. This makes it an excellent hat for travel and everyday use!! It's also really easy to clean, which means a much longer life than most of my sport caps.
Had to replace the old cap that is wearing out
I purchased this cap many years ago for its sun protection and convenience. I liked the profile of it and how it fit and how comfortable it was. It is beginning to fall apart after all these years so I bought two new ones. They are slightly different, with a taller profile than the older type (same name and model) but they have better sun protection as they are newer. I'm glad they're still made. My only disappointment is the profile is taller and not as attractive.
