Sleeping Bag Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right One for Camping

Inspired by blanketing layers, the Rumpl Wrap Sack sleeping bag is less constricting than a mummy bag with more performance than yesteryear's flannel rectangles for just-right comfort at night.

I love this cozy roomy colorful bag. It like having the bonus of a giant gorgeous rumple blanket that wraps and at times zips in many ways. I use it on my queen size bed to sleep in at night. So easy to access air or curl up under a flap. My chihuahua loves it too! The “clips” are totally useless! Just undo them right away!! I got the lovely Baja Fade.
I've been a strong supporter of Rumpl for many years and was SO excited to see a sleeping bag finally made! I appreciate how you can decide how warm (or lack thereof) you can make the wrap sack. The clasps on the side make it easy to adjust the warmth and get in and out of the wrap sack. I used my Baja camp pillow and had no issues with it staying in place (thanks to the engineering Rumpl built) . The only "negative" I would say is be careful opening/using the zipper on the wrap sack. Since this is made from puffy material, it can get caught easily in the zipper, so be very careful to not get it stuck. Other than that, can't complain!
Let me preface this with im an experienced backpacker. I'm so excited by the concept of this bag because I mean, look at it. It's so cool! I love the shape and the design. and it's not a mummy bag. Really, I have been looking at this bag for a while now, and I bought it. It came yesterday. The thing is more like 6 pounds. It does not compress very well and takes up a lot of pack space. I have a 50L large pack. it worked, it fit. Although I had to leave my thermals and blanket behind when I took this to test it out. Last night in noco Mountains, it was about 22 degrees, so I had a great testing environment. The bag is very spacious and warm. The hood is really wide, but you can adjust it as needed. The problem is that it's not deep enough to cover your head. Just the top off the assumed rumpl brand sized pillow. the bottom layer is thick and comfy. The middle layer is thicker even but very short it could use a bit of slack. At night, when I stretched, I could feel cold air coming up from the foot zipper area, and when I tucked into the bag to keep my head warm, my toes froze. the neck could use an adjustable system of some sort that compresses or tightens around the shoulders to prevent air from coming in. As far as the toe zipper area, they could simply add a little fabric flap or cover for the zipper area. My last note is that the snap system that holds or connects other rumpl brand blankets is hard to manage when it's cold, but wah wah right. If they ever made a version of this blanket that was lightweight or used a combination of their synthetic filler and down, I would definitely buy this bag. Overall, this is an awesome late spring bag or normal camping bag. Please make a backpacker version. Don't pay me for my notes just send me one when you do.
After being quizzed by my boyfriend for months about how I plan on keeping myself and our 2 small dogs warm if we are stranded in the car in the freezing cold the wrap sack appeared! It seems to be the answer to a problem I didn’t know I had and that it will be my go-to sleeping bag . I have not used it yet but inspect and wash. This bag takes up a bit of space due to the 2 wraps but that’s to be expected and I think it’s worth it for the functionality. The little clips are clever but might be frustrating in the dark. I’m looking forward to using my new sleeping bag!
This fills an unmet niche and I'm already really loving mine. If you want a small, packable, backpacking sleeping bag- this is not for you. But if you like car/short distance hike -in camping and are a curvy human-- this is the bag for you! After years of not sleeping on camping trips, zipping my curvy self into a mummy bag that felt more like a sausage casing-- this bag is my dream come true. I can move and stay warm! Amazing! Would also be good for folks with mobility limitations due to the unfold and fold in nature. I do agree that the clips may be a pain in the dark and with cold fingers-- not my favorite design by far. But the ability to move and shift merges blanket and sleeping bag beautifully. So excited to take this out this summer for family camping.
Finally a sleeping bag that fits my needs! I have never liked mummy bags, just to confining and you can't curl up without a fight with the bag. I love it...worth the price I paid. If you are looking for this to be a backpacking bag, this one is not it-there are many other fabulous lt weight mummy bags out there. For regular camping it's perfect. The fact that you can layer makes for a comfortable night sleep. I hope to get many yrs use out of it! Good job Rumpl!!
I am not a backpacker, but went anyway. My history in tents and sleeping bags is not good. Panic attacks, nightmares. It’s family lore. So when planning this trip I knew I couldn’t do a mummy bag. I need some room! This bag was so roomy and comfy. I seriously slept like a champ. It was chilly out,Temps down to 29 but I stayed toasty. I only gave 4 stars because it is a bit bulky and heavy for backpacking. Worth the bulk and weight for me!!
I have been looking for a replacement sleeping bag as my old didn't have a bag, the other one was okay but wasn't as cozy as I wanted it, saw the ad for this one and had to get it, its like sleeping with my blankets at home to be honest. The spot for the pillow kept it in place the whole night. I got a little too hot, it was easy to stick my foot out to cool down a bit, I can't wait for my next trip to use it.
Great for car camping! It would be heavy for backpacking. I like the fact that is it a layering idea. Too hot, remove one layer...cold, put it back on. I have a mummy sleeping bag and don't enjoy it as much as it is constricting. This sleeping bag gives give to wiggle and had a spot to keep your pillow in place. A bit bulky and doesn't compress well but I still love it.
Tried out my new wrap sack this weekend- stayed warm and cozy all night, plenty of room to side sleep. Loved the double layer option and put it to good use! Cape clips are a learning curve, but doable, even for cold hands.
