TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

A no nonsense trail (or other) running short.

For me, the best compliment I can give running clothes is that I don't even notice them while running. These shorts do their job without getting in the way. It has good liner and several useful pockets that don't get in the way. I also really appreciate the waistband; wide and grippy so that you don't have to fight with gravity so much. It has a "key pocket" on the right hip that at first I was concerned about as it is not very deep and does not close. However, it does have a leash clip and the hole is elastic, so it cinches up nicely. Not only did I not lose keys, but you don't even notice them riding on your hip.

Great fit. Great value.

These are really comfortable. The fabric is very soft and they seem very well made. They are very breathable and have a ton of stretch. I got an XL as I wear 38 pants and I think they run a little big. They have four different pockets, three in the back with the middle one being zippered, and one inside the waistband. The two side pockets in the back fit keys and an iphone 14 without issues. The zippered pocket is great for energy packets or gu gel. the inside pocket is big enough for your ID and a CC but not much else. I also used these while rowing and they felt great.

Comfortable and functional

These shorts are pretty nice. I got these but to be honest, they were a little small, so I gave them to my daughter. That being said, they are nice shorts for running. They are quite soft and have a lot of flexibility built into the material. They also have a nice liner if that is something you prefer in your running short. They also have a zippered pocked on the back, so you can keep a key or gel pack on hand but out of the way. Overall I would say these are a quality pair of shorts and would recommend

Comfy, Convenient, Good Value

These REI Swiftland 7-inch shorts provide an impressive blend of comfort and utility without the price tag of comparable brands. It took me a long time to find a comfortable running belt to wear with my old shorts, but these have a comparable quasi-running belt built in. I like that the elastic waistband is wide but soft, and the rear zipper pocket can hold my phone and ID (I’m unsure if it would hold an iPhone max. My phone is regular size and fit snug). The rear side pockets stay closed via tension and I had no problem with snacks falling out. There is a small inner front pocket for a key. I do wish they had regular front pockets for my hands on cold mornings. I like the length of the shorts, and didn’t have my usual issue where shorts hug my front thigh. The material is soft all-around, but the tradeoff is that they show sweat a bit more than harder fabrics (you may want to order a darker color if you’re worried about sweat lines) and they wrinkle a bit easily. The underwear are high-quality and don’t rub or have harsh seams. Combining the built in underwear and waist belt into the shorts means that I have one piece of laundry to worry about instead of three. This has really been a nice change.

Comfy Trail Shorts: Storage Struggles

I snagged the REI Co-op Swiftland 7" Running Shorts for trail running and shorter outings, appreciating their soft, flexible design that promised comfort during movement. They delivered on feel right away—one of the most comfortable pairs I've worn, with a lightweight, breathable fabric that fits nicely overall. On a 9-mile trail run with friends, they shone: soft against the skin, plenty of flexibility for varied terrain, and no issues when paired with a running pack for carrying essentials. The key clip in the back pocket held secure, giving peace of mind without any paranoia about items popping out. However, on shorter track sessions and neighborhood runs—like a recent 10k where I loaded up with an iPhone 16 in the back waistband, keys clipped in one pocket alongside an ID and debit card, and chapstick plus a gel pack in the other—the limitations surfaced. The phone bounced and rolled, forcing me to cinch the waistband uncomfortably tight, which dug into my hips via the strings. Even then, it pulled downward awkwardly. Loosening up meant carrying the phone by hand for relief, but then the gel pack's corner poked through the thin material into my hip, disrupting the run. With nothing in the pockets or just a pack, they're fantastic, but adding even small items turns them cumbersome. Pros: Exceptional comfort and softness; lightweight and breathable for easy mobility; secure, high-quality key clip; great fit when unloaded. Cons: Pockets struggle with sharp-edged or bulkier items, leading to poking or shifting; back waistband isn't ideal for phones, causing excessive bounce unless overtightened, which creates discomfort; they run a bit large (a medium might have suited better than my usual large). Deeper or more structured pockets could improve versatility for self-supported runs. These shorts excel for minimalistic trail sessions where you prioritize feel over storage, but load them up and the experience dips. I'd recommend them for pack-assisted adventures—definitely a solid choice there.

Decent summer running short

received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These are a very lightweight running short with a decent liner. After running in them several times I can say they are comfortable with no issues or chafing. They do have 3 pockets, 2 tiny key pockets in the rear at the waitsband and one large zipped pocket in the rear of the wasitband. The material is stretchy and I was able to get my iPhone12 with case in there, but its not my favorite place for a phone. Had they added a slash pocket or two on the sides, these would have been 4 starrs. The other reason for aa lower rating was the look. Not sure if its the cut of the material or the way it sits on me, they are overly baggy. The liner is spot on so going smaller would not be helpful.

Quality running shorts

First off, these are well made and ridiculously comfortable. The material is lightweight, breathable, and I’m really happy with the shade of green. The drawstring holds tight, the waistband does not roll like some shorts, and the liner is soft and comfortable while also being supportive. The center back pocket with zip is a great spot for a lightweight item like a key fob or a protein bar. It does not work well for me for a heavier item like a phone. There are two reasons I went with four stars and not five, as I really like these shorts. They need a small pocket on the front somewhere that’s more accessible than the rear zip pocket. Secondly, I don’t have bird legs, and for a bigger person the legs tend to creep up toward the nether regions. I found myself having to readjust the liner legs rather more often than I wanted. Most recent run with these shorts was 80 degrees, sunny and humid. They breathed well wicked moisture better than I expected.

Like the zipper pocket, lose the bagginess

These shorts are a great hybrid between an everyday athletic short and running shorts. The positives include very comfortable breathable fabric with great inner lining support, ample well sized pockets (along with great zipper and hidden pockets), a large waistband that limits movement and a short length that works well for working out and lounging around the house. The drawbacks are the short cut which creates a very strange bagginess on the side and hiked front leg exposure. The fabric after a few washes changed feel a bit but was still comfortable. The liner is great, but the brief cut limits someones ability to wear an additional underlayer, if desired. The general fit was spot on for a Medium (6'1", 170 lbs).

Fit grater and super breathable

These shorts fit me great and they're super breathable. I especially like the boxer brief liner, which help to prevent chafing. The outer fabric is paper thin (probably why it breathes so well), but good enough to make it look like I'm not running in spandex. I run with a vest and seldom use the pockets, but they don't get in the way. I prefer these REI shorts to other shorts from Salomon, New Balance, and Brooks. (Patagonia shorts are also good). They just fit right.

Great Shorts! Not just for running.

I bought these as running shorts and ended up wearing them for absolutely everything, hiking, workouts, lounging, yard work, everything. Very comfortable breathable and fast drying. I am always concerned about chaffing with compression lined shorts - not an issue with these. I cannot say enough good things.
