This is by far my favorite sleeping bag. As a 6'1 230+ lb person I can honestly say sleeping bags have always been a struggle for me. Mummy bags have always been too restrictive and I've never really been able to get into a good sleeping position. This bag is comfortable, spacious, and allows me to move around better than any bag I've used before. This is not a bag you take on an overnight hike, it is bulky and heavy, it is best suited for car/tent camping where space isn't really a limiting factor. I used it on a recent camping trip and while it does allow for plenty of space for me, it does also take up a lot of space in the tent. I use a 2 person REI dome tent and with this bag, there really isn't much room for a second person.
I wasn't able to use this in very cold conditions, so unfortunately I can't speak to the bag's performance in cold conditions. However, I was happily surprised that it kept me just the right temp even though the temps were in the 50s. I didn't get too hot. The bag is super cozy and comfy, to the point that I even used it to take a nap indoors. The size is generous without being too much bag. It's still too big for me to want to use it on a long hiking/camping trip, but it's perfect for car camping or tent camping that isn't too long of a hike. I'm not sure what the pocket on the inside is for aa or seems putting something there would be uncomfortable while sleeping. The zippers get stuck on the fabric pretty easily, esp on the shorter side, which was annoying. I really like that this unzips to become a sleep quilt and can see that being really useful when the temps are warmer, which makes it more versatile than most other bags (that, plus the fact that it's actually rectangular rather than mummy style). Overall, I liked it a lot and think I'll get a lot of use out of it.
I love this bag! I find mummy bags constricting, but it's difficult to find a rectangle-shaped bag that is also warm and has mummy features—like a snug hood. When I unpacked this bag, I slipped in to see how it fit and it was so comfortable I dozed off. The fabric is silky but not slippery, and the bag is wide enough that side sleepers like myself can move around without the bag bunching up. There's just enough room for me to put the bag between my legs so there's padding between my thighs. The hood is adjustable and can go full snug, like a mummy bag. You can also cinch the shoulder area. The bag also performed well in an upstate NY winter car camping. It's best with a base layer and a hat, but I was toasty. The only add on I would make is a pocket to keep car keys or a head lamp.
I bought this this bag last week for the upcoming snowstorm in Denver. I live in a van with no heat. I’ve so far slept 2 nights with my internal temperature reading 40 degrees and stayed plenty warm with only a wool base layer and thick wool socks. This morning my internal temperature read 21 degrees (10 outside). I wore the same and put a throw blanket in just to fill up space and again I was plenty warm! With it fully zipped it’s like an oven. I am a hot sleeper. I am also 5’4 120 pounds. I love all the room in this bag and how it doesn’t slide around on my bed. The best car camping bag ever! So happy with it!
This is a cross between a sleeping bag and quilt. It’s squared at the bottom instead of rounded like most sleeping bags making it more versatile and more comfortable. It’s very roomy, comfortable and warm. There is a space at the head to put a pillow without it slipping out which I found a nice bonus. You can also use this space for extra warmth as you can tuck under this space. The bag does not zip all the way up but I do not see a need with this bag. It comes with a nice stuff sack and it is easy to roll up and put into it. I do not see a need to store in a roomier bag. This bag is a bit heavy and bulky so I would not recommend for backpacking or bikepacking but it works perfect for carcamping or similar activities. I can see myself using this for guests staying at the house with how comfortable it is. It is very warm so indoor use might not work. The bag appears to be of high quality and I anticipate it lasting a long time. My only negative so far is something very minor, the zipper is one sided so locating it is not as easy as with other bags.
This sleeping bag is very roomy and very warm. Anyone tall like I am will easily fit in it even with it all zipped up, tucked away comfortable and warm under the hood. It will take the edge right off even on a freezing cold night up on the mountain, so much so that you won't need to run any heaters all night. It is large and heavy, so I'd recommend using it for car/RV/backyard camping rather than backpacking.
Bought this a a warm weather bag (40’s & 50’s). Nice construction and tailoring with a lot of attention to detail. Has a quality feel and appearance. Looks much nicer in person than in the web photos. Inside fabric is a little slick and I kept sliding down towards the bottom on a slight grade. I also own the Hunker Down version of this sleeping bag and both suffer from temperamental zippers. On a hard flat surface the zipper is silky smooth with no issues. On a 4” sleeping pad the zipper keeps snagging at the pelvis and shoulder areas. There is a little bit of bowing in the fabric as I pull the zipper past those 2 depressions in the pad which causes it to catch. When it snags it’s sudden and without warning. The snag at the shoulder is usually pretty bad and impossible to free while I’m in the bag. Having to turn on lights, slide out of the bag and then getting tools to free it is ridiculous. I’ve never owned a sleeping bag that snags this seriously and with such minimal effort. Sea To Summit, Nemo and Featherd Friends bags have worked just fine with this sleeping pad. The zipper needs a redesign and it would be an easy fix. Making a snag proof or snag resistant sleeping bag is not that hard. I’ve moved onto other options and stopped the temperature tests so this is an incomplete review. If you don’t use a thicker sleeping pad you will probably have no issues. On a carpeted surface I couldn’t induce the zipper to snag.
I bought this bag for car camping and it is so far, my favorite bag. So far one trip (2 nights), and it only got down to the high 40s, so I stayed plenty warm. I did bring a flannel sheet, but I didn't really need it for warmth on this trip. The bag is roomy and comfortable, I love the hood big enough to accommodate my pillow, and I could turn easily in the bag. I also appreciate that in warmer weather, I could unzip the bottom of the bag to put a leg out (didn't need to on this trip). I am a 5'2", 165 lbs woman, and usually sleep hot. This bag did not feel confining like a mummy bag. Would recommend!
For reference, I am a 61 year old female, 5"3 and 185 lbs. AND a side sleeper! I thought this bag would not be wide enough for me to roll around in, but with the "silkier" material is was easier that my old Coleman with the flannel inside. I used it on a cot in about 40 degree nighttime weather. Maybe even cooler since it rained cats and dogs the first night. I did pack another blanket (Alpine trek from Costco) down inside and was very comfortable and warm. I loved the hood and am spoiled forever more. I did not lose my pillow once and the bag features on each side kept me from waking up with my shoulder and arm freezing. I paid full price for the bag and really hestitated because of the price, but after using it I would absolutely buy it again!
Used it through a storm on second beach, didn’t need any extra blankets or anything! Kept me so warm and dry, I love it!!!
