I was so excited when REI started carrying Stio. I love how bombproof and long-lasting their clothing is, the incredible attention to detail, and great color options for women. The fit tends to be generous in all the places where my body needs to move and yet keeps an athletic and feminine shape, with nice little pops here and there. Having had accidents while hiking and as I tend to encounter wildlife, I want to be easily spotted in the forest and not sneak up on anyone... so I prefer high-viz colors. Stio's color options remind me of inspiring features of nature -- different intensities of sky, burning leaves, tempestuous sunsets, sulfurous fumes, etc. and I'm thankful I don't need to order men's sizing in order to get bright colors like I have experienced with many other American brands. I ordered the berry color, which is cheerful and the orange interior and trim make it fun and a little different to wear. That pop of orange gives kind of a "just for me!" feeling when I put the jacket on. It's soft and flexible -- easily folding into my pack, is quiet, and yes, the sleeves are generously long so wrists stay warm. The smallish quilting channels make it easy to move in, so the jacket is what I reach for whenever I go out. Here in the Pacific NW it is my outer layer for much of the year and fits easily under my goretex rain jacket. I can wear it over a fleece midlayer or just over a shirt -- it fits both. Thank you Stio for putting the security pocket on the inside of the chest. I have other down jackets that either don't offer a security pocket or they embed it in the handwarmer pocket low down on the waist. When it's cold outside, I don't like having to unzip my jacket all the way to my waist to get my keys out. With a chest pocket up high, I don't have to unzip so far and being that it is on the inside, the zipper doesn't get caught on things I brush against. I also like having the open-top glove pockets on the inside... that's often where I store my mobile phone. Yep, my go-to jacket!
The size small jacket was too large for me (5'1, 115 lbs). The sleeves and neck were too wide on me. I'll be returning it.
