great quality, big fit

Just got one of these in, the quality is amazing. im super excited about it, plus over 20,000mm waterproofing, this thing will definitely handle some storms, as someone who is tired of overpaying for goretex, im excited. Only reason i took a star off is it runs pretty big. I normally wear a large-XL, and what i mean by that is i typically try on a large, its too small, and then i opt for an XL. Im 6'1 and 190lbs, i got a large and its really big, im deciding if i want to size down to a medium.

Arm pit area ruins the fit for me

Seems high quality, and I like several features. It has a pretty nice hand feel, 2 way zipper, and a snap at the bottom designed to prevent accidental unzipping from the bottom up. But fit immediately felt constricted in the armpits. I think either the armholes are too high, or pit zips are bulky and poorly designed. Either way they were creating pressure under my arms. Size purchased was Medium (5'9" 165 lbs). I could try a large, but other than the armpits, the rest of the fit does not seem particularly trim on me, so I'm worried it would just be a baggy mess unless over heavy layers. I think I'll just pass.

Good initial impression

I wanted to write a quick note to comment on the sizing. I’m 5’11”, 165 lb. The medium fits well with plenty of room, I can wear the shell over my puffy. But it’s not overly loose. I have long arms and the sleeve length is great. Likewise the back length is not too long, but also not too short. Initial impression of quality is good, but I need more time to fully assess. The best mid-weight touring gloves I’ve found so far (in 15 years) are Rab’s - they have held up great so I am optimistic about the jacket.

Great Mountain Shell

I purchased the Rab Firewall Mountain jacket in a size Medium about 4 months ago and am very happy with the purchase. For reference, I am a 5'10" 170 lbs, and the overall fit is great. I’ve had a few chances to wear this shell through several heavy snow and rain storms, and it has kept me completely dry every single time. The helmet compatible hood and adjustments are great. The armholes do feel a bit tight when your arms are relaxed at your sides while wearing a down puffy. However, the jacket arm holes are designed specifically with climbing in mind. The articulation is great for reaching up without the rest of the jacket pulling or bunching awkwardly. Overall, the materials, fit, and finish are outstanding. If you are looking for a hard shell can handle weather, this is a great piece of gear. Highly recommend.

Awesome hard shell jacket

Great jacket; waterproof, pit zips, helmet compatible hood and relatively light.
