A Perfect Overnight Companion
The Sherpani Santiago 35L Travel Pack is an excellent choice for short overnight trips. The quality is outstanding, with durable materials that feel built to last. The color is stylish and versatile, making it a great-looking travel companion. One of the standout features is the thoughtful compartment design. The layout is well-organized, making it easy to pack efficiently while keeping everything accessible. Whether it's clothing, toiletries, or travel essentials, there’s a place for everything. Overall, this bag is a great blend of style, function, and durability. If you're looking for a travel pack that is both practical and attractive, the Santiago 35L is a fantastic option!
Great storage and organization. Not comfortable.
I haven't had the chance to take this pack on a trip yet, but to test it out, I packed it up as I would expect to use it--as a one bag option for a weekend trip. With ample storage volume and lots of different compartments to keep things organized, I was impressed with how easily I was able to fit everything into this pack compared to my existing collection of backpacks that see this kind of duty. I also appreciate that it has lots of thoughtful touches for security, like the loops that keep zippers from being easily opened without notice, and also things that are very travel focused, like the top and side handles and the band for sliding a roller suitcase handle through. The materials are nice on the whole and seem like they will stand up to the abuse of travel just fine. However, there are a few spots this bag falls short. If you aren't really into the super organized packing style, you might feel the extra compartments, zippers, and pockets are just getting in the way. The bottle sleeve on the side is very slim. A 1-liter Nalgene does not fit but a 16 oz Hydroflask coffee bottle does. I found the strap adjustment to be pretty annoying to interact with. Unlike most packs where you can just pull on the straps to tighter or lift on the buckles to loosen, these straps require more work, so you probably aren't going to be adjusting this much on the fly. And the biggest issue I have... it's just plain uncomfortable. The shoulder straps don't really have any padding, and the waist pads don't really reach far enough forward to provide comfortable relief. Ultimately, unless I'm really focused on packing as much as possible in a backpack that's serving as my personal item on a flight, I just don't see myself grabbing this bag. Comfort in a pack, whether hiking a trail or navigating an airport, is paramount and this really misses the mark there.
A carry-on you can wear
I'm always on the lookout for something that makes travel easier. Not having to check a bag when you're in a hurry to reach the departure gate is always nice. Using a rolling carry-on is a great solution and this happens to be a carry-on you can wear. It holds the basic necessities but doesn't have a lot of room for bringing things back from your trip unless you pack really light. Starting from the interior I was able to fit the large and medium REI packing cubes and a regular Peak Design toiletry kit. I was able to fit the small REI packing cube on the interior lid with a small pouch for various cables in the smaller zipper pocket. The larger pocket on the lid could fit a few more items but not too much more. It zipped close without having to squish all the contents. There is a pouch on the very back of the backpack that easily fits a 15" laptop. There is padding between the laptop and the portion that rests against your back but there's no padding on the very bottom of the bag. If you sit the bag down hard you could possibly dent or damage device. You might want to place a small towel or shirt at the bottom to make sure it's protected or use a case for your laptop then place it in your bag. The outer pocket has a surprising amount of room. I was able to place a hoodie and a hard case containing my headphones and still have some room left for a battery pack or some snacks. There's also another zippered pocket where you could store pens, keys or various quick access items. There's a large zipper pocket that would be great for storing large flat items like printed directions or a tablet. The exterior water bottle pocket is a tad small. I was able to fit a 20oz Klean Kanteen but not a 26oz yeti. It should also fit a tall slender bottle from the airport concession stand. I had a bit of trouble getting the bottle in and out of the pocket once the bag was full. The elastic at the top of the pouch was stretched pretty tight against the bottle and it pinched my fingers getting it in. It might relax over time and not be as big of an issue. The exterior most pocket can fit a tablet or a not so thick book. It could also be another good spot for travel documents. The nice part about this pocket and many of the exterior zippers is there a protection loop that holds the zipper in place and makes it more difficult to open if someone is trying to get into your bag while its worn. There is also a belt that attaches around your waist to help spread the weight and makes it much lighter. It's the same principle many hiking bags use to make it nicer for long periods of time. Like wandering around a new city for a few hours before catching a connecting flight. Overall this is a well designed and well thought out bag but again there's not a lot of room for souvenirs once you're coming back. It's for people that want to travel light but still be able to carry what they need and get from one side of the airport to the other without going to baggage claim.
Spacious, well built, with thoughtful details
The bag is quite nice. Very well built. That was what stood out to me initially. The bag has reinforced stitching, the nylon feels very robust and all of the hardware is very very robust. The bag feels like it's a "buy it for life" item: everything feels almost overbuilt. Truly like it is made to travel the world. There are a lot of really nice small quality of life things built into this bag. The "tuck through" loops for the zippers make it so it's much harder for a thief to try to surreptitiously unzip your bag whille standing on a subway. The bag feels quite capacious; with judicious packing, you could bring a weeks worth of clothes, and your laptop. It would make for a very easy weekend bag, though you might be stretching it for longer than a week. I really like the inner liner, apparently each one is a different, reclaimed Korean billboard, which gives the inside a neat, unique feel. Just a fun "easter egg" for the owner. I have not taken this on a flight yet, but it has been apparently been sized just right to be a carry on. (greatly appreciated on that front, as I really loathe to check luggage if I can help it.) Overall, I really like this bag. It feels incredibly well built. It is purpose built, so it wouldn't make for a great "everyday" bag, or as a bag for school/work. But if you're looking to one-bag travel, then this would be an absolutely excellent choice.
Another awesome bag from Sherpani
This bag can easily get you through a weeklong trip. It has plenty of built-in compartments for organizing your stuff, which I love. There’s a special spot for your laptop + anti-theft features (can’t cut through it, extra protection for zippers, return me tag and more). Another great detail is the pass through loop so the you can attach it to your suitcase—oh btw, it’s also carry on friendly! I love this brand. I have another bag of theirs and it’s my absolute favorite bag for both work and travel. Very detail oriented.
Must have for carry on travel!
This backpack is the perfect size carry on size for travel or weekend getaway, good for backpacking as well. Lots of security and pockets. Fits about 2-4 days worth of gear. I would highly recommend this to anyone traveling!
Solid weekender bag
Pretty strong pick if you want a one and done option that gives you enough space for a few days worth of clothes, laptop, and a water bottle. The security loops are definitely a plus if your traveling and security is top of mind in your decision making. And because of this, it is also a trade off. The loops do require extra fidgeting around if you need quick access to a zipper pocket. Which again, is a plus if security is at the top of your list for a carryon backpack. If not, and you prefer more convenience, you can still get around this but then you cant zip the zipper all the way. so it is a trade off.
Over Design High Quality Bag
This is a very nice bag, with some pretty incredible features. I think the hanging hook ring and the locking zippers are great features. It’s also easy to pack with it being a wide and tall bag, without a ton of depth, which also helps it sit well on your shoulders. I feel like you can get 3-4 days worth of stuff in this pack comfortably. What I’m not sure about, is the purpose of this bag? It has lots of features for being used in areas where crime is a concern. But, all the images are using it outdoors, and it feels geared towards outdoorsy use. The narrowness of the pack is a feature and bug, as it wouldn’t be great for packing awkward sized outdoor gear. The waist support is a bit overkill for the size of the bag, and felt like more of a nuisance. All that being said, this bag is going to be perfect for someone’s use case. It’s made of good materials and feels like it’s high quality.
Great Dual Purpose Travel Bag
Perfect bag to double as carry-on / diaper bag for a solo trip with my toddler. Just finished a solo 2-week international trip with a 2 year old and needed something that could work as my standard carry-on backpack as well as a diaper bag to fit all of the baby supplies for 2 long flights and a layover. This was the perfect go-between of those things. I was able to get my normal gear like the laptop, a sweater, tablet, meds, and a few snacks in here while also transferring most of the contents of my diaper bag so I could reduce my total carry-on to just this one bag. Spare wipes, diapers, toys, PJ's and all that fit perfectly. Pockets and mesh dividers made it super easy to organize things. I love how easy it was to organize and separate items, especially since the bag folds completely open and lays flat like a suitcase. My normal carry-on bag is made like a standard backpack and I didn't realize how inconvenient that was till now. I also loved how it has a separate laptop compartment with some hard padding to protect things, I was able to get both my laptop and a tablet to fit in there. So far I'm happy with the build quality, the zippers are really beefy so I have confidence I'll be able to abuse this thing like I do most of my gear and not have to worry about a catastrophic failure. I'm a pretty big guy so I didn't use the waste strap, and didn't really need it but I do appreciate it there, but on trips when the pack may be heavier I'll be nice to have it. Overall I'm super happy I swapped out the 2 bags I was going to take for this one, it made solo travel a lot easier. And I think this will be my go-to for a while.
Great design and travel friendly features
A great bag to have for travelers trying to pack light. My favorite feature by far are the zipper "locks" (loops that prevent crimes of opportunity). It's such a simple feature that gives me peace of mind and no need to carry extra locks for zippers. The bag is also divided into many compartments which makes packing a breeze. The straps are comfortable and easy to adjust for a personal fit. This is my go to carry-on, especially for those hard to navigate locations. Just would love to see more exciting colorways.
