I love this bag for our scout adventures in Florida and the Georgia Mountains. I have an R4 pad/mat. Rarely the temp is below 30, but when it is I take the whole bag. Most times, I take parts. Blue part for down to 50 degree F and Orange for below 50 to 30. I use a hot water bottle to help the bag warm up process and have learned to keep my head covered. Thankfully I’m short so I can pull the bag tight around the top of my head and sleep inside the bag. It gives me plenty of room to move that I can’t get in a mummy bag. Go summer camp- lows of 50 a I only used the blue part as a quilt rather than the whole bag. It just gives me so many options. I recommend this for our scouts as a good purchase to give them one item that fits many situations. My tent got rained out at summer camp and my bed was wet without access to a dryer. The bag still kept me warm for the night and rested - if a little pruney - in the morning when I could hang it to dry.
Purchased two of these sleeping bags after talking with rep in the store who said that he recommended them. Well they’re junk. Zipper broke on one first time out and they just don’t keep you warm enough. I would highly recommend getting something different. Probably just going to toss these in the trash.
At nearly 6 pounds, this bag packs down to about the size of an entire 65 liter bag. 15 degree rating is very far off. This bad is really not warm at all.
I purchased this for my daughter for Scouts. The bag rating is not accurate at all. With a R 5 pad, alpaca tights, alpaca sweater, and a hat on my daughter froze in 45 degree weather using the 15 degree setup.
I got this bag for cold nights car camping- it did not disappoint! It is large but the ability to zip bags apart for different conditions means it’s really two bags in one. Spent the night in 20° and it was toasty!
Have not yet used it in the wild, but I'm looking forward to it. I had some concerns based on other reviews when considering this and another NF bag online, but seeing it in person, I was sold. But then the challenge getting assistance to buy it began. First trip to look I could not find anyone to assist me, so continued on to other departments and decided to return another time, when I had more of it. Second attempt I finally found a less than helpful and knowledgeable team member who reluctantly came over and was unable to offer any assistance nor get anyone else that had some bag knowledge. I did get some great help in shoes that day and bought some Oboz hiking boots I love and will review separately. Third visit FOR THE PURPOSE OF BUYING A SLEEPING BAG, after looking on my own and waiting for someone to come over for about 5 minutes, I went and found someone stocking near the register who was helpful and did get a couple of bags down for me and then got a "bag specialist" who, honestly, did not provide helpful info or answers to questions. I'm somewhat a novice and looking to upgrade my camping game and gear. I decided without assistance on this bag, which I LOVE based on store and home inspection and expect it will be a great all around car camping bag. I had the "bag expert" pull one from stock and off to the register I went. Fortunately I closely examined the tag prior to purchase and noticed he gave me a LONG size, not the regular size like the floor model I looked at and requested. He seemed annoyed I asked him to swap it for the one I requested, but complied. Honestly, this is the only REI where I regularly struggle to find assistance and feel welcome.
