I'm 5'10" and 145lbs and usually wear between a 2-6 depending on brand, and found these on clearance in an 8. Fit perfectly, with the wiggle room you'd want in a hiking pant. I actually think with that in mind the pocket placements are solid, and I love that the ankles cinch (the cinch itself is super subtle) and there's ripstop fabric on the knees/butt. It's a little funny that it's mesh behind the hip pockets - can give someone a look at you're chonies if you're wearing any (but who cares when you're in the woods). I also use these as sailing pants so the high waist is awesome for bending down all over but not giving anyone a show. Pumped on these things, but yeah that sizing is wild.
Ignore the comments saying they’re too short or too long. These come in THREE different inseams. If the shortest one is too long or the longest one too shortcut, maybe you didn’t scroll all the way through the sizes to find the best fit for you. Or maybe you are on the extreme end of the normal fit! These trousers deserve five stars for thoughtful design, workmanship, and materials. I love the versatility and that the waist is adjustable—which happens to form a sideways loop to hang my axe :) Having said all this, I do agree that you might want to size up by two sizes, but check the waist measurements and go by that?
Hiked a mountain with these pants. They provided warmth for the early morning but were still breathable enough when the weather warmed up. Also provide great wind protection. I really like the way the waist fits and how you can make it more snug or loosen it up. Because of the looser fit in the legs they are good for some minor rock scrambling, too. The fit is off as some other reviewers note. I'm normally a size 0 but sized up to a 2. I'm also on the shorter side and found that these pants are a bit shorter than normal.
These pants are very comfortable. I wear them hiking and climbing. The fabric is great for movement and very breathable. I love the snap button on the front and the ties on the waistband. A lot of the reviews talked about how they didn't like the mesh lining for the pockets but I haven't really minded them. The pockets are super deep too! I am usually either a size 0-2 short. I bought a 0 short and wish I would've sized up to the 2. Otherwise the 'short' length is perfect on me (I'm 5'2).
Beware, these pants have very high waist. Complete opposite of low rise, listed in the product description. I like the stretchy material and the adjustable waist. The thigh pockets at the front of the legs are not optimal when hiking and also when putting the pants on (you need to pay attention not to put your foot behind the mesh). Pockets on the side would be much better.
Nice pants. As others have mentioned they seem to run a bit on the small side. They are a high waisted cut, tho.. which means they actually sit at your waist/line (that may be what’s throwing off the sizing for many us). Front pockets aren’t terribly deep (a negative for me)… but the 2 lower front zippered pockets and the one rear pocket (also zippered) are generous and easily accessible. If you like pants that sit at your actual waist, give em a try!
North Face nailed it! Such a cool style without compromising functionality and quality. I would agree with others, they do run about a size smaller.
Never would have felt compelled to write a review except that I accidentally stepped into knee-deep mud in these on a hike, pulled my leg out, and these remained *pristine* except for a few small mud patches near the seam. So if nothing else, something about this fabric is working. I normally go for size 2 to be comfy in pants but grabbed a 4S in these and they fit exactly how I want them to (I'm also 5'2", short legs).
I would e loved these pants if they had fit. Great construction, exactly what I was looking for. I wear 4 or 6 in pants. Bought 6 short and they were too small by a couple inches. They are very high waited and I am really short waisted, and I believe that was the problem. So, if you’re “normal” sized, you may be in luck. Unfortunately I had to return them.
Hiking pants that are better for curves than many others. The waist is high enough to allow bending without exposing your body to chills and walking is quiet. The green color was good too.
