I see why this pant was in the bargain bin

I bought these as light hikers, they will work as that. I had them treated with permethrin by insectshield. The fabric and fit seem fine, time will tell how they hold up. Whoever it was that okayed the design of these pants must have never actually hiked. Cargo pockets on the front of the thighs? Put something in one of those pockets and walk a couple of miles, and you, too, will curse their placement. I generally carry a small pack of some variety, so the loss of the cargo pockets isn't insurmountable. But why, why, why design the pants this way??

Ripped open at the seam in 6 months!

I wanted to like these pants. They were comfortable, had the right kinds of pockets, and so on. But 6 months in, they have a gaping hole right below the fly where the seam has come apart. I wear this for everyday casual use, not rough hiking or exercise. This has never happened to me with any pants, ever, regardless of use. And at this price point? Come on, Royal Robbins, this is pathetic. Hopefully, REI will take them back for store credit.
