Royal Robbins Billy Goat Shorts Aren't Improved
The updated Royal Robbins Billy Goat Shorts aren't a good buy. They don't compare favorably with the same Billy Goat style from the 2000s. The material feels thicker, heavier and cloying on a hot day. If the material is wet it takes longer to dry. If your hands are wet and you try to get into the pockets it's a sticky hassle. Front pockets are not easy to use quickly with keys or money because they are smaller and stretchy. Back pockets can hold a small cell phone, but now have no zippers or Velcro. If you use the restroom, the cell phone will fall out of the pocket onto the floor. There isn't as much ease of movement. The silhouette looks different and not as flattering. I would rather have the material hang nicely than cling. The hems at the bottom of each leg are now 2" more narrow. They aren't as freeing to walk in. They feel unpleasant when you hike in them after a swim. The fit is still spectacular, but I would go back to the old style! I am so disappointed and I'm wondering if it's possible to buy ANY pair of shorts that will be feel as easy and comfortable as my old Billy Goat shorts.
