Excellent probe.

I have used this probe a handful of times in practice for my AIARE class and in the beacon parks. My instructors recommended the slightly longer length compared to some of the kit ones. Marking on it are clear and I have been able to throw deploy and tension it as fast as any of the probes that were being used. Mammut makes great products. Ill updated again at the end of season as I intend to practice more as the season continues.

Solid Feel and Functionality

I bought this probe as a replacement to my previous, shorter probe I purchased 10 or so years ago. I'm quite pleased with this new one, it works as it should with no complications. This new probe has a larger diameter compared to my last one and is very confidence inspiring when probing. The release is a sturdy and simple mechanism, the cable appears durable. Due to its increased length and girth, it's a bit heavier than my last one. But in my opinion, avy gear isn't the place to worry about cutting ounces. Overall, this is a reliable , durable and easy-to-use probe option at a fair price point.

Perfect trade-off in weight vs material composition

The aluminum construction gives me more confidence than carbon for minimizing risk of failure in extreme cold temps. But still not significantly heavier than equivalent length carbon probes. The 8 segment design allows for this probe to fit conveniently into basically any pack, 300+ mm probes with less segments tend to be too long for shorter packs. Only wish the method for disassembly and retraction was easier to handle with gloves on. The cord locking mechanism is quite finicky and hard to maneuver with gloves

Good so far

I like it so far, but already showing some signs of use pretty early on. I use it a lot for ski patrol work digging pits and running drills. Have already worn off the numbers down low from probing down to dirt/around tree branches. Once it came apart when the tip got stuck in the dirt and I pulled up but I may not have locked it out enough. Little worried about the string draw cord but it's holding up so far. Good probe for deep PNW snow packs.

Quickest deploying probe

This mammut probe is extremely easy to use. Unpack it, throw it to the side so it extends, and pull the quick tab to compress all links into each other. A crisp audible click will let you know you've successfully locked the probe in. I couldn't think of an easier design so I'd have to say this is darn near perfect. I can't speak for longevity yet, but it seems this one will be just fine. Another great Mammut product.

Strong and Simple

I own 2 of these probes. One for personal use and the other for professional use as a ski patroller. It's light without sacrificing strength and can stand up to daily use. Assembly is easy and intuitive for any experience level and the lock mechanism is secure without any frills. Disassembly is just as easy. The markings are clear and easy to read with bright colours for increments up to 150 centimetres.

Great probe, use for work

Great probe, just a bit tricky if snow gets in the top latch. When the probe stays in my pack, it is lightweight. It is also easy to deploy and use. The only issue is when the snow gets stuck in the top attachment part and I have to remove it. This is great for any level, maybe a bit long for some areas where they don't receive as much snow but all around excellent probe

This probe replaced one that is too short for the amount of snow that I'll find myself in. Beyond the increased length, the deployment action is smoother than the old probe, even with mitts on. Top that off with a brighter colour scheme, and this new probe is a real winner. Hopefully, I'll never have to use it in a burial, but it's great for snow study.

Very intuitive design

The Mammut probes are very easy to assemble urgently and feature a great locking system to ensure the probe doesn't come undone while performing a rescue. As someone who has been getting in to the professional Avalanche Industry a 320cm probe is very important and this is one I can really count on for rescue and snowpack assessment purposes.

Great Probe

Ideal probe. 320 is the way to go, and get aluminum! It’s not worth shedding a couple of grams for a carbon one that might break on you when it matters most. While there’s other options out there with these specs, this does the job well. Be familiar with the markings. For me these are ideal.
