Temperature ratings are intended as a guideline to help you compare products, rather than a guarantee of warmth, since many different factors contribute to your comfort while you sleep. Backpacking bags are typically rated for temperature according to an independent testing protocol—currently International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 23537, though some older items followed European Norm (EN) 13537. Testing is based on a person wearing one base layer and a pair of socks, sleeping on an insulated surface with a minimum R-value of 5.38.

Each bag then gets 2 ratings: the Comfort rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "cold sleeper" comfortable, and the Lower Limit rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "warm sleeper" comfortable. Some brands determine their own temperature rating by aligning to the Comfort rating for women’s bags, to the Lower Limit rating for men’s bags, or somewhere in the middle for nongendered bags.

Not Warm Enough for Outdoors, but Fine for Hostel

I tested this sleeping bag on my deck, lying on a couch. I tried to fall asleep in it at 13°C (55°F), but went back inside after 30 minutes because I was freezing! I was wearing leggings, cotton socks, and a long-sleeve cotton top. If you're planning to sleep on the ground with a mattress in a tent, this bag is definitely not suitable — it's very thin and cold. I'm planning to use it in hostels in Spain in September, so I was looking for something like this. The bag is spacious enough to turn from side to side and move your arms and legs. It's compact, but not as compact as the Spark Down 45°F.

The best!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this sleeping bag from seatosummit & Influenster in exchange for my honest review. 1st of all I think this is the prettiest sleeping bag I’ve even seen!! It’s also the softest, most comfortable!! The material almost feels like silk. It’s a down sleeping bag!! I didn’t even know there was such a thing!! It’s so so soft!! It’s also waterproof. It’s made from recycled polyester fabrics. It’s a hybrid that can convert into a blanket. It’s very lightweight with 2 different bags to store it in. It has a life time warranty. I am very pleased with this sleeping bag!! I feel like it’s the best there is!!

Good for a smaller person

I was so excited to get this sleeping bag -- it packs tiny and weighs next to nothing! But after using it for a night outside, I found that I can't even zip it up all the way if I want both of my arms inside it. I've never considered myself to have particularly wide shoulders but apparently they are too big for this bag. There was plenty of room for my hips but I spent half the night with one arm out until I finally unzipped and used it as a blanket. At that point it did keep me warm enough in April in the White Mountains, though. So, three stars for warmth, packability, and weight; two removed for being like a straightjacket if your arms and shoulders are not on the smaller side and you want them to be in the bag.

Down and Weighs nothing!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The sea to summit traveller is an all around winner for us! I love the color 😂, but for practical reasons it kept me warm and didn’t weigh me down! No pun intended. Can be packed back into its small carry pouch and stowed in/on most any pack. Super happy with this one!

A favorite

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sleeping bag is so comfortable! It feels like you’re sleeping on clouds. It is very durable, and packs down very small. I went to a hotel and slept with this on top of the bed bc I hate hotel blankets, and I’ve also used this camping. It’s so versatile!

The perfect travel bag

You know the saying things aren't made the way they used to? That doesn't apply to this bag. I'm in my 60s, and I use this bag for hotel stays, Hotels generally provide maybe one blanket per bed, and that's already been washed and dried at a high temperature. No problem, I like a clean, no bedbug bed, but hotels can also get cold at night, or I just don't find the bed or bedding all that appealing. No problem, I just take out my bag and wait until it fluffs up, and voila, a good, clean, familiar sleep. So many thoughtful features with this bag, and so well made, including two carry bags. Great little Sea to Summit compression bag. Got the longer version and glad I did.

Sea to Summit Traveler Down Sleeping bag

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best sleeping bag I've ever used! I've always had trouble with sleeping bags because they take up so much space in my backpack, but this bag is so compact and allows for other essentials to be placed in my bag. Its full sized and very warm. I like to add an extra blanket and pillow and it gets very comfortable. This is an essential to anyone who camps or travels.

Desert approved!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I live in the desert, so this was perfect to test drive in 72°F Las Vegas weather. I wasn’t too hot or too cold, this sleeping bag is lightweight and durable. My only complaint, would be I am 5’10 tall, I didn’t have a lot of wiggle room. This thing is perfect for on-the-go and a good night’s sleep wherever you are!
