Please note, this sizing chart is meant to serve only as a guideline.
Sizing downhill poles: Stand in your ski boots on a level floor. With your poles upside down—grips touching the floor—grab the pole beneath the basket so that the top of your thumb touches the basket. Your elbow should now be at a 90-degree angle. If the angle is less than 90 degrees, get a shorter pole. If the angle is greater, get a longer pole.
Sizing XC poles: Stand in your XC ski boots on a level floor. Place the pole tips on the floor next to your feet. The top of the grips should reach your arm pits.
Sizing skate poles: Stand in your skate boots on a level floor. Place pole tips on the ground with the pole shafts perpendicular to the floor. The poles should reach from the ground up to a point somewhere between your chin and your lips.

These well designed and aesthetically pleasing poles do it all! I love the bright color (easy to find in a crowded ski rack) and they’re incredible at propelling me forward on flat sections of snow with minimal effort, so perfecttt for cat walks! I’m 5’2” and my partner is 6’5” and we both enjoy using these because the straps and length are so easily adjustable. These are my go-to poles and I’m really looking forward to bringing these out in the backcountry with all of my other beloved Black Diamond gear once we get more snow in my area :)
Black Diamond poles (and specifically the Traverse series) have been in my ski kit for many years. The newest version is no exception to the durable and useful design that makes them famous. I really like the newest update of adding a lip on the pole handle, as its useful for a number of tasks while skinning. Additionally, the new red color looks awesome and I love the large powder baskets. I recently used them for ski touring near Keystone Resort, as well as for some on-piste skiing and the poles performed excellently in both situations.
10/10 would recommend. These poles are excellent for resort and backcountry alike. Compared to my 3-section poles, they’re significantly lighter and easier to adjust. They’re super easy to adjust even with bulky mitts making them great for touring and steep traverses. I love the hooked end makes putting my heel risers up and down super quick and easy. I love the color of these too! Super cute and would make it easy to spot if you drop one. Dummy straps are great, wide to fit over heavy gloves, and feel really durable. Baskets are sturdy, wide enough for powder, and, unlike other poles I’ve had, pretty easy to attach securely. No more lost baskets! It would be nice to have the foam grip extend further down the pole for traversing, but you can simply shorten them on the uphill side if that bothers you.
Lower section of pole bent when it broke through the snow on a side hill on 4th day of use on Dec. 30. Could be a freak thing, but I had not bent my old adjustable Leki poles (2mm wider pole diameters) in 13 years of use. This 1 star review also relates to my experience so far with BD’s customer service. Phones are currently shut off, The chat line cited on the contact us page is not available, and when advised by email to just file a warranty claim, the warranty page keeps giving error messages without an explanation after I provided details and proof of purchase info. Note: this year’s model (24-25) also lacks the rubber grip extensions (useful for sidehills) found on the previous year model (which saves 1 oz. of weight).
These poles are 105 – 155 cm, and their shortest length is perfect for me (5’2’’) for hiking up or on the level ground. They are a little heavier than carbon poles but feel very sturdy. The grip and the straps are comfortable, and straps are easily adjusted. The lock is tight and reliable. Bright red color of the poles and the powder baskets make the poles well visible. I have not yet had a chance to ski with them (not enough snow) but using them for hiking in the snow was comfortable.
When the baskets on poles are so hard you need instructions, and there are no instructions with the product, you have an issue. Internet YouTube where each person posting really struggled, and one hurt his hand…. . give some pointers BD.
Bought piles for my daughter and son. Brackets fell off a pile on her’s and a pile on his (she lost hers). I think we have them on now, she has a black on from a hiking pole
Nice and light, easy to adjust . Main use has been for ski touring, and they do not disappoint!
I loved mine so much I bought my dad a pair for his birthday!
