Please note, this sizing chart is meant to serve only as a guideline.
Sizing downhill poles: Stand in your ski boots on a level floor. With your poles upside down—grips touching the floor—grab the pole beneath the basket so that the top of your thumb touches the basket. Your elbow should now be at a 90-degree angle. If the angle is less than 90 degrees, get a shorter pole. If the angle is greater, get a longer pole.
Sizing XC poles: Stand in your XC ski boots on a level floor. Place the pole tips on the floor next to your feet. The top of the grips should reach your arm pits.
Sizing skate poles: Stand in your skate boots on a level floor. Place pole tips on the ground with the pole shafts perpendicular to the floor. The poles should reach from the ground up to a point somewhere between your chin and your lips.

These super light ski poles were excellent on a few backcountry ski outings and snowy hiking adventures. They are extremely lightweight with a comfortable handle and leashes that make your upward movement more efficient. Since they compact into three pieces they are easy to stow in a backpack or other small bag. I also loved the simple switch that you flick to adjust the height. There is a small learning curve on collapsing or extending the poles, but once learned it is a relatively quick and simple process.
When you think of ski poles, one is most likely to consider robust metal tubes, based on the old wooden ones they largely replaced. These tubes are designed to withstand many repeated whacks in the snow as you torpedo downhill at speed. Adjustability and portability are not the name of the game for most ski poles. These are a rare exception. First, how do they function as downhill ski poles? Like most any pole you would expect. They functioned like any other pole I've used, and I had no issues enjoying plenty of resort laps on these sticks. The ability to adjust their height is invaluable for people of different sizes or preferences, and it is of course immensely useful for ski touring. In a resort, the fact that these can collapse is rather unimportant, except perhaps for easy stow ability in a friend's trunk or car. All of this is to be expected. These sticks need fine downhill performance, and they do well. They need good adjustment, and they have that. But it is the folding feature where these poles shine. There is no other ski poles I have yet encountered that can pack as compactly as these. This opens up a lot of possibilities. I am a frequent ski tourist, alpine climber, and expedition climber. I use the folding BD running poles all the time for long distance or ultralight missions, but these being lightweight yet robust ski poles opens up a world of opportunities. You can easily stuff these into a duffel bag, and take them anywhere-perfect for travel. You can put these inside of your pack, or compactly stow them on the outside. For someone that frequently skis an approach then climbs, this means no more leaving my poles at the base of the route, or dealing with one more thing hanging off my back as I deal with technical situations. Black diamond has created a niche of its own with these poles, and they know it. These poles are not useful for many skiers, but for those who know what they need, there is no tool quite like these sticks, and for a traveling alpinist, these poles open many opportunities that otherwise would not exist. This is a real step forward, and I'm excited to see where it can take me.
These are great poles. I've been skiing with fixed length poles for a long time and making the change to adjustable length ones is a game changer. So far I used them for skiing inbounds, ski touring, and for a skimo race. I'm looking forwards to trail running with them in the summer. They are lightweight for the up and nice and stiff for the down. They are compact when folded up, and easy to set up and adjust, and I haven't had any issues with slippage. The grips are comfortable and grippy, and long enough for the skin track. The baskets have a flat side for scraping snow of your skis, and the handle works well for heel risers. I'm also like the Not sure why the straps are labelled left/right though. Overall, very impressed with these.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These are well made, functional beefy poles. It took a sec to realize instructions must be read, but then the 'man, these are cool' realization kucked in. The quick extention feature works great! Having a built it tool to adjust/tighten the latch is a genious feature - I could not get the poles to slip, which has been an issue with other poles I have used. The hook on the handles works well - I was only able to test using my frame bindings and these pole worked much better than my other Black Diamond poles when it came to adjusting the heal plate. I was only able to test for 2 days in VT, but all signs point to a great product. One thing that was a negative. Was one of the poles kind of rattled when shook. I could not figure out why, but it did not affect performance,
These are perfect! I had some old three piece poles and they always stuck out of my pack and were in the way. These compact perfectly into my Dawn Patrol 32. They are well designed, strong, and have great features! Highly recommend!
excellent poles for splitboarding, very light and easy to use. I do wish the paint was a little thicker as it scratches easily, but the color is lovely! Great set of poles!
Loved them so much that when I yard saled and snapped one i immediately went online and bought the same set again.
Nice and compact, feel a bit heavy but definitely sturdy
