Great day bag.
I’ve used this for 40 hours on skis now and have zero complaints. Major upgrade from the last generic Osprey backpack I was using so that my bias this but here’s the run down. PNW based. -I’m 6’4” and a large fits great. -Back panel access is great super easy to get anything in your bag. -Top pocket access and size is perfect as well. -Shoulder soft flask pocket is a little odd but super nice on the skin track. I’ve used it way more than I thought I would. -Hip pockets are a good size and not in the way of my arms which was a big problem with the last backpack I had. -AVY tool pocket is easy to get to and not blocked when using any of the outer straps to hold things. Could it be lighter yes, but I’ll take the extra weight for the time savings and organization any day. Definitely would recommend for quick laps and all day tours.
Great for backcountry!
Had my eye on this for a while but couldn't decide between the 25 and 32. Went with the 32 which was definitely the better choice for me as it fits the many layers I tend to want when I go backcountry skiing. Took uphilling and cross-country skiing last week and really love how easy it is to plop down on the snow and access everything from the back hatch. The goggle compartment on top is large and will protect your goggles or sunglasses. The fold out helmet holder is simple to use. The pocket is great for probe + shovel and snacks. Overall, I'm really happy with this bag.
Poor design!!Back country ski pack
The hip pockets are on the back of the pack, not actually on the hips. You either have to turn the pack sideways to get into that pocket or reach into the pocket around your back without seeing what you’re doing. . (poor design) a potential fix could be some sort of elastic on that hip belt or adjustable straps, so that hip pocket can ride on the front of your hips and be accessible. . Also, the little flap on the shoulder strap for water hose, I believe is a poor design when you’re actually skiing and skiing fast this flaps around gets in the way. . I sent this pack back!!! Oh, and I’m having a custom pack designed with a functional hip belt and pockets and shoulder straps that don’t have anything flapping around. .
Poor buckle
Plastic buckles back on the dawn patrol?? Poor design. I have a dawn patrol with metal buckles at the waist belt. So much better. If I step on it with my ski boot I won’t break it. Why the change. Super disappointed. The pack is great and I was stoked to see a metal buckles on the previous version. I’ll never understand why outdoor companies continue to cheapen the gear.
My new favorite backpack
The Dawn Patrol backpack is functional and well-structured. It has a dedicated avalanche gear pocket, a lined pocket for goggles, and a section to store layers in the back. I have yet to use it with a camelback, but I like that I have the option for it. The side pockets are large and as a bonus, I love how the backpack looks.
Solid pack. Happy with it!
Happy with my purchase. Bought it in 2024 for the winter season. Toured with it several times and into late spring/summer. Great pack. Happy with all the attachments. Every time I think, "Ohh I wish I could do this with it", it can. So I have found it rather versatile and solid. I would buy it again.
Best ski backpack
I love this backpack! It has been absolutely great. It fits everything I need for the resort and back country without being oversized and bulky. Very comfortable for long days and awesome how there’s a pocket for everything I need accessible.
Great pack for backcountry
Great pack that fits and organizes all my avy safety gear, food, water and cameras. Sturdy straps and strap pockets are very useful - just need to stretch a bit to get the lower ones.
Great fit and roomier than you might imagine.
Eye surgery has kept me out of the mountains, but the pack fits great and holds a lot more gear than you might imagine. Loving it so far!
Spacious, comfy, and versatile
Overall, great bag. I enjoy the dual position helmet wrap. Back panel access is spacious and front panel stores my avy gear perfectly.
