Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I bought my first pair in Nov. of 2024.They lived up to their billing so much so and also helped me tremendously with my Plantar Fasciitis that I went ahead a bought a second pair. I wear these when I am not on a trail, for the trail, I use the trail version of the Olympus. I don't understand the criticisms of this shoe. In 2022 I was on the AT and bought a pair in Damascus VA. They served me just fine, well into PA. Of course by then with almost 600 miles on them they were fried. Best pair of shoes I used on the AT.
Avoid at all costs. quality decreased, Altra won’t honor warranty. REI won’t help either. I use these shoes solely for running 6 miles a week. After 54 miles these have broken down. REI won’t take them back or honor their guarantee. Altra won’t respond to my warranty claim. Bought these April 10. Started having problems in June. Took them to REI in June. No help. Filed claim with Altra on July 9. No reply from Altra. Sent several emails. No response. Just ignored me and told me to file another claim in the same email chain that they asked me to provided a receipt for a claim number that they had already issued and logged in their system. I am moving on to Hokas and telling everybody this company service and quality has taken a nose dive.
I have worn the Altra brand for several years now, but as I have gotten older my feet need more cushion. These shoes have been great. I have worn one pair of Lone Peaks and several pairs of Timp's and the Olympus is by far the softest ride of what I have worn. I have grown to love the wide toe box and can't go back to a more traditional running shoe... I did have to go a half a size up on these from what I normally wear.
I love the wide toe box, the cushion and the zero drop. This is my fourth pair so you know they have been good to my feet.
These shoes seem to have good support and are reasonably firm, not soft like so many of the super thick runners around. I only use them for walking but happy with them. Getting them discounted certainly made them more appealing.
I really wanted these ultras to be my new running shoes. I had never had a pair of these but my girlfriend has a pair of zero drop ultras that she absolutely loves. These were also on a big sale so I thought why not. First problem for me was the stack height is super high but the cushion is very firm. For me this caused several issues while running as the height and firmness threw off my gait and caused my knee to swell right at the 1.5 to 2 mile mark. This swelling would last for the rest of the day and sometimes even into the next day. It took my a couple of runs to find the issue and it was these shoes. Even my hoka Clifton 8s which had well over the recommended miles performed much better than these. Overall these will be casual/ walking shoes which is a let down as I am still in the hunt for new runners.
I don't run anymore. I'm an old dude & running hurts. I do walk a lot. I also wear them to work. I'm on my feet all day and walk about 2 miles a day at work. They are very light weight considering the thickness of the sole. Superb cushioning. Here's what I don't like. This is the 1st shoe I've bought with 0 mm heal to toe drop. Just feels weird. They are ever so slightly small. Not enough to up size though. The left is perfect. The right rubs my big toe by days end. I'm going to keep & wear them. Perhaps I'll change my mind about them, but for now I probably won't buy Altra again.
I like this very much. This is my second pair, because my feet are very wide and I wear them very comfortably. I recommend it to people with wide feet.
First two runs were like you would expect from new shoes. Subsequent runs became more and more difficult. Shoes didn’t get any better. Now they sit in the line with other so-so shoes in the rotation. Not the worst shoes ever, not near the top either. For the price I had great expectations. Had.
Great fit! cushion is high density which is great if you are over 200lbs. I've been wearing for over 3 months and they are wearing well.
