This is really 3.5 stars. This pack is very durable. All of the straps and zippers are so easy to use. It’s big enough for all my gear and light enough for my tastes. *Most* of the pack is very comfy, and the hip belt is the best I’ve ever come across. The elastic side pockets are perfect - big and totally hassle free. Some problems: First, the foam on the shoulder straps is so hard it’s painful and renders the pack unusable. I’ve contacted Big Agnes to see if it’s a fluke and if I can get replacements. We’ll see what they say. Secondarily are some minor things: Not enough lash points on the outside Needs a handle on the front. The brain straps are so short it doesn’t sit directly on top of the pack when the pack is full. The single extra zip pocket that’s not in the brain is only useful for storing your permits or paperwork, it’s too tight to open if the pack is even part way full. And if you backpack in the Sierras with bear canister, just forget about using this pouch. Same feedback on the elastic pouch on the front of the pack, it’s almost too tight to use with the pack full - with force I was able to squeeze my tyvek ground cover and a deck of cards into it. I personally found the attached trash can a waste of material- love the thought, but it’s really unnecessary and inconvenient on trail.
