Well-Designed Ultralight Tent

I used this tent for a 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip in the Mendocino National Forest with another person. Overall, it is clear the designers put a lot of thought into all the features of the tent and were very intentional. Carrying the tent: I was very impressed with how lightweight the tent was and the ability to pack down the tent into a small size when the poles were removed. The pole pouch has added loops for easy attachment to a pack if desired. The closure of the pole and stake bag was simple and efficient; no draw-strings or unnecessary cinch, just a flap of fabric that folds over itself and is more than enough to keep everything inside. Setting up the tent: It should be noted that this tent would have a difficult time being a free-standing tent as it requires stakes and guy-lines at one end to support the "foot" portion of the tent. High-quality steel stakes (9 total with bright blue cords) are provided with the tent (see pictures) as well as 4 guy-lines and a pole splice. I found the bright blue cords especially useful as they were easy to find when taking the tent down and packing it; nothing was left behind. Note that the black portion of the tent poles does come pre-bent and this is intentional; the poles are not damaged. The tent is very quick to set up and is easily done by one person. There is a clever tie between the door of the tent and the rainfly to help keep the tent and rainfly together and I assume to keep any rippling in the wind to a minimum. All tent hardware for poles and guy-lines were high quality and very easy to use. Using the tent: There was plenty of room for 2 people, although technically it will fit 3 total. There are no side pockets inside the tent near feet or heads, but a gear pocket above you that can store sufficient items, I did not find it lacking in storage space. The nightlight pocket is a great feature so you can use your headlamp and not require an extra lantern to light the space. Downsides: As expected with an ultralight tent, I am concerned about the durability of the floor as it is pretty thin. I will be purchasing a footprint to use with the tent on future trips.

Great tent for international travel and rainy days

I took this tent on a trip to the fjords of Norway in late June/early July. I would never have thought to switch from hotels to camping on an international trip without this tent. It was incredibly packable and easy to carry with me. The compression stuff sack was ideal to compress the fly and the tent to fit in my pack, and I was able to split the poles to carry them separately. I was a little concerned about the tent initially because the fly does not go all the way to the ground at the head of the tent. However, I was very pleased when caught in a downpour - it rained all night and we stayed perfectly dry. The tent does require proper staking to make sure you stay dry and the tent is properly set up. The provided stakes were sturdy and did not bend when placed into the ground. Additionally, if you are clever and have a second set of hands, it is possible to collapse the tent body from underneath the fly to prevent the body of the tent from getting wetter during a rainstorm (if you need to move camp during a storm). There are many neat features that improve the tent, from a small string from the door to the fly (increases the available room in the tent) to the headlamp pocket. It was very roomy for two people with packs and would work for three, but you would be very cozy with packs!

Ergonomic and Lightweight

The amount of innovative solutions packed into the this 3P tent is outstanding. First of of, the tent is very light. You do need to purchase the footprint to protect your investment. The tent will go a long way and on many many adventures. Setting it up was a breeze, the stakes are aluminum, won’t bend easily, and have notches on them to attach the corners with ease without worrying they might come loose. The poles are all attached to each other so no more worrying that you might loose/forget a pole. Set up of the pole structure takes few seconds. The tent itself has nice hook clips for the top cover portion. Corners of the tent where the poles get attached look like car ball joints, snap in nicely and won’t come loose. The front of the tent have in each corner mini poles imbedded into the fabric so that the perimeter retains its same and give some more sturdiness. The two side openings are pretty big to get into the tent. There is a hidden small strut with velcro hidden behind the top cover zipper. It will act as a spacer to provide some airflow without sacrificing privacy. As for the space inside, two people will have more than enough room, 3 will feel slightly compacted (pending one’s size). You can still put backpack or whatever bag you have brought at one end and sleep comfortable. There are 3 additional mesh storage compartments that can be used for lightweight storage including nightlight. There are few loops overhead for drawstrings or another makeshift storage compartment. Another cool perk is that the tent is not that noisy. The fabric is great as compared to another 2P tent by a different brand that I have. This one is the go to now from now on. The tent was not tested during the rainy weather yet. It was tested and put through it’s paces during the constantly warm and sunny Midwest prior to heavy rains.

Impressive tent, with some caveats

Above all else, I have to say this product is impressively large and impressively lightweight for a 3-person tent – just about the same weight (or lighter) as my current 2P backpacking tent from another similar brand, and others I’ve owned before. First off, some of the positive aspects: Perhaps most importantly, this tent packs down quite small and the roll-top, stuff-sack style bag it comes in is really handy for saving space in a pack. It is a true 3-person tent and extremely spacious (especially if you or your trip partner(s) are shorter). It would dramatically cut down on pack weight to split this between 2-3 packs. The poles physically pop in to the connection points of the tent as well, instead of being held by tension, which is really easy for quick set-up. There are 2 entry doors on either side, both of which are super large and are able to be tied back. The tent itself has a LOT of storage which is extremely helpful. It is also super panoramic (which is a plus if you’re in to having a view while you camp, not so great if you have privacy concerns without a rainfly or if you’re worried about rain getting in). Now for the downsides. Being based in the PNW, I have some real concerns about how weatherproof this tent would be – particularly with condensation inside since the rainfly sits flush with the tent in a lot of areas (instead of being raised a few inches off of it) and because the mesh runs down pretty close to the ground. If you’re camping in an area where you can’t set stakes, you would have an issue with this tent, as it requires guy-lines to fully structure the tent. With that being said, it may cause an issue with somewhere windy as well since there is not a ton of structural integrity built in to the base. If you have dogs, like I do, I will warn you that the material seems very very thin and somewhat fragile so does not seem incredibly rip-proof. A footprint is a must with this tent. Overall, if you prioritize space and being able to really cut pack weight, this tent is a great 2 to 3-season option but may require some forethought as to what kind of trip you’re planning to use it on.

Spacious UL tent - Big Fan

I used this on multiple backpacking trips in Big Sur with my 65lb dog. This tent is light enough for me to carry on solo trips but spacious enough to bring a partner (and the dog, of course!). The poles are a little awkward to set up by myself but nothing unmanageable. I like the gear loft design -- easy access and holds a lot. Decent overhead clearance too (I am tall). I also like the thoughtful mesh design. The side mesh panels are white for privacy but the upper is black so you can see the night sky when not using the fly. My photos don't include the fly but I found it easy to set up and sufficient ventilation that I didn't wake up feeling swampy. Overall really impressed!

Roomy

So this is my honest review. Never got the tent for free, paid the price for this puppy. I want start by saying this tent is giant and it’s built for a purpose. If space and light weight is your priority, this tent is 100% it. You could always go to Home Depot and buy a $2 tarp that does the same thing. Joking aside. I upgraded from a walmart tent that was tough as nails and let it fly with the wind(literally). Pros • Huge - this thing is the king of space. im 6ft tall and could most likely be 6'6 or taller and be very comfortable. The width is also amazing. Get a walkie talkie to talk with your tent mate. Head room was another plus, i could sit up straight and not hit my head at all. plenty of room for extra bags/shoes with just 2 people. • Light weight - This thing is ultra light lol. It still feels a bit bulky compared to nemo hornet 2p while packed away. • has lots of fancy spots to put headlamps and other things above you while you sleep. • vestibules are very large and can probably sleep 1 person under each side while bringing the total to 6 people if someone sleeps at the foot of the tent. Cons • Very thin fabric, you well tear the bottom at some point. i opted for the ground mat. • Price, fully spec'd out this tent will cost over $700 with the ground mat and sales tax. • Condensation will build up on the inside & outside of the tent. i went camping and the temp went down to 15F, needless to say I was breaking ice all over the tent with clear sky and no rain for a 1000 miles. would recommend this tent. only if you need that much space and the weight savings that come with it for back packing.

Handled a night of heavy rain like a pro

Spent my first night in this tent in NH and so far I love it. The first time setting it up took me a little extra time (still only 10/15 minutes), but I think it’s because Nemo added some features to actually make setup faster/easier and I was overthinking it. I recommend watching a quick setup video to help you, and so you actually utilize all the features Nemo added to optimize space. I love the clip features, the two large vestibules, and the easy attachment latch to hook open the rain fly door. I definitely recommend the custom footprint to help protect the thin bottom. It has easy to use C clamps and a hook for pole on the foot end of the tent ensuring it stays in place. After a night of heavy rain, the foot box is high and therefore had no condensation. The head had a little condensation as the rain fly comes up higher on that side. I’ve seen some complaints about this, but we had no issue with rain coming in the tent. We slept 2 people (one 5’5” 130# and one 6’0” 170#) and a 22# dog in the tent with plenty of space. We didn’t use the feature to split the tent. Many people rave about it but I don’t think I’ll ever use it. Seems like a going to me.

Great backpacking tent

Very pleased with this tent. It was recommended by rei customer service. Bought this for backpacking. It's lightweight but seems to be pretty durable. I've only had the opportunity to use this a few times but so far it seems great. Very easy setup which makes me want to use it more. Went with the 3 person for the extra space, it's definitely worth it for the little extra weight. Will definitely be purchasing more nemo products.
